Syndicated TV talk show host Oprah Winfrey tore into the American people for lacking "reason," "respect," "civility," and "decency" and "only thinking about themselves" for not supporting Barack Obama. Winfrey made her scathing criticism during an interview with ABC's Barbara Walters.
A survey released this week showed that a majority of the country believes they are worse off after nearly two years of the Obama presidency.
WALTERS: "And today, what would you say to him (Obama)? How do you feel about it all?"
WINFREY: "I feel that it is, first of all why would anybody want that job? To get, because no matter what you do and how uh, much you give of your heart and wisdom and uh, soul and energy, and I think he's, he's really fully there, giving his all. And to be criticized the way he is I think it's unfortunate. I think it's unfortunate when you have a nation of people who don't want to support the president of the United States."
WALTERS: "Do you think he's communicating?"
WINFREY: "I think that he is. You know what I think that what wasn't communicated? I think we don't realize was how close we came to depression. And as soon as we got saved from the brink of that we all forgot what that was, we all forgot. And so I think that he has done a lot and I think that people uh, can't see it because they're only thinking about themselves. The fact that people uh, still are out of jobs, but we're not in breadlines, we have forgotten, we have forgotten how close we came.
"So I think that there needs to be a greater level of respect and a sense of uh, decency and civility and reason. And I think we, we've lost that."

She now wants us to stop criticizing her precious baby black president? Oprah is that out of touch. Blinded by race. Blinded by the insulation her wealth provides. Made wealthy by capitalism and freedom and the American Constitution. Oprah thinks she’s Obamas mama.

Prior to reading THE CONTENT OF OUR CHARACTER, one will find it helpful to know something about Sheby Steele’s background. He has a Masters in Sociology and a Doctorate in English Literature. As a result, we find a well-written book with profound sociological insights. Generally speaking, sociologists are not well known for being good writers. Steele is clearly the exception. [snip]

Already a fan of Shelby Steele, I made a conscious choice to wait to read A BOUND MAN until after the results of the 2008 U.S. Presidential election, and I have just finished doing so. Clearly, Steele’s 2007 prediction did not turn out to be prescient, but not only is the book still a worthwhile exploration of how our current President’s past has and will continue to be woven into his present, Steele’s presentation is a masterfully concise distillation of his own very insightful take on why race relations are stuck and why this stuckness harms blacks even more than it does whites, while suggesting reasonable, doable strategies for breaking the logjam. In that sense, while some can just yuck off the book with sophomoric dismissals because Steele didn’t turn out to be a prophet, the insights about Barack Obama and how he is bound to the deals he’s made with the devils of 20th-Century racial politics are even more important for our citizenry to absorb — given that Obama’s stuckness is bound to have much more effect on our country than it would have had he not been elected. If you skip this book for trite reasons, don’t fool yourself — you do so not because you want to give the President the benefit of the doubt but because you just don’t want to know. bttt
