Huckabee Building Mansion In Florida
TPM ^ | 12/9/10 | Eric Kleefeld

Former Gov. Mike Huckabee (R-AR), a 2008 presidential candidate and possible candidate again for 2012, is currently having a multi-million dollars mansion built in his new primary residence state of Florida:

The Arkansas Times reports:

Former Gov. Mike Huckabee is building a $3 million house on Blue Mountain Beach just east of Destin, Fla. He bought the lot on the famous sugar sand beach last year for $800,000 and this year took out a building permit for a house expected to cost $2.2 million. The three-story house will have 8,224 square feet of living space and 2,969 square feet of decks and porch. A pool or spa is also in the works.

Walton County tax records show Huckabee has a $2.8 [million] mortgage with Centennial Bank after paying off $250,000 of the land purchase. This is in addition to a $375,000 mortgage outstanding on his vacation home in North Little Rock's Shady Valley.

He has a pretty good gig with both Fox News and ABC Radio, plus past earnings from his previous gigs as governor, etc. He seems to be a reasonable fellow - what’s wrong with enjoying what you’ve earned? I thought it was the Left who are all about class warfare. Not Conservatives. Am I missing something here with these snarky posts I’m seeing? Has he stolen these funds? I live in NW FLorida and it’s a gorgeous, peaceful place to call home. I say welcome, Mr. Huckabee. And no, I don’t live in a McMansion on the Gulf.

After I read of him in “The New Yorker” Magazine as a PROFILE
i declared him a flake of the first order. He has limited intelligence . His brain has never left high school.

I was born and raised in Walton County, Florida. I wish the beaches would return to what they were when I was a kid. AT times you could walk for miles without seeing another person.

Now it is just overrun with mansions. I worked at LaFountain’s Wharf in Destin when it was just a sleepy fishing village.

Interesting: a $2,800,000 mortgage plus another $375,000 mortgage. That raises the question whether Huckabee could afford to leave Fox News and still maintain those mortgages on the president’s salary and whatever assets he might have now.

it’s not liberal jealousy at all- Huck took himself out of the running when he signed up for a FOX show-it showed exactly who he is- he has never left high school.

I think he’s written a couple of books too hasn’t he? Call me dumb, but I don’t begrudge him building his dream house. What about that 10 million dollar house the most (ir)reverent Jeremiah Wright is building.....is it with his own stash? BTW, I’m not disagreeing with you....I’m with you on this. Just puttin’ my 2 cents in.....:)

Ever notice how most politicians (either party) leave office wealthier than when they arrived?

Would really invite folks to read (or re-read) P J O’Rourke’s “Parliament of Whores”.

Nice dodge there binky.

Maybe you can start by reminding us what a strong conservative Huckaphony is. He was just perfect for an endorsement by your man/God wasn't he?

And he’s been employed with FOX ~ BTW, several former governors of Arkansas didn’t make a whole lot of money as governor ~ at least not compared to later on. Bill Clinton is a good example. He wasn’t exactly a wealthy man until he served two terms as President and then the bribe levels went up to 9 figures ~ nothing at all like he could command as an Arkansas governor.

I don't know... the liberal jealousy is running pretty high on this thread. And I don't even like Huckabee all that much. But I sure don't begrudge him the chance to build a really schweet beach house. Good for him. We should all be so lucky some day.

My dad told me four decades ago that politicians will say whatever they need to to get elected. Left or Right doesn’t matter. Yet the people who vote for them will rarely admit they’ve been snookered.
