Raleigh, N.C. — A Kansas church famous for its anti-homosexual protests at funerals plans to protest at the Saturday funeral of Elizabeth Edwards, the estranged wife of two-time Democratic presidential candidate John Edwards.
The Westboro Baptist Church plans to protest for 45 minutes before the funeral set for 1 p.m. at Edenton Street United Methodist Church in downtown Raleigh, according to the church's website.
The Westboro church website throws invective at Edwards but gives no specific reason why they chose to protest her funeral.

I’ll be interested to see how much protection the local authorities give the Westboro nuts at this funeral. A double amputee(!) combat veteran was recently arrested and jailed on multiple charges for confronting these vermin at a soldier’s funeral.
I like the Christmas Carol idea. I also like the idea of some things accidentally falling out of one or more NCANG C-130s in the vacinity...SPLAT!

I wonder how the Westboro “Baptist” “Church” gets the money to go all over the country to spew their hate and bile.
It think that W”BC” is a plant, of someone or some organization with lots of money. This individual or organization hates and wants to destroy America, and especially hates and wants to destroy true Christianity.
Every time that W”BC” stages a demonstration or makes the news, it goes viral on all the print and electronic media. (It’s all over Twitter right now.) That promotes the “gay” cause, and brings God’s Holy Church into disrepute. It also tends to demoralize our American military.
Of course, no one EVER sees the W”BC” say anything against islam. It figures!!!!
He is going to die just like the rest of us. I have a sense that he isn’t going to like the turnout he receives on the other side.
Why don’t the bright minds of FreeRepublic work at uncovering who these people REALLY are?

They protest everybody...they protested at Ronald Reagan’s funeral, Jerry Falwell’s, etc.

Wouldn`t doubt it, “spooky dude” funds every other anti-American puke group.
I believe that they are exactly who they profess to be.
However, the REAL question is who is funding their cross-country hatefests.
I have my suspicions as to who it is, but I have no proof.
I’m a staunch Republican but if I lived close enough I would consider it my sacred duty to round up as many people as possible to protect the Edwards family from these cruel savages. We would arrive early and take up all the parking spaces in the protest area. I would recruit the local high school marching band to play some appropriate songs. As soon as the WBC creeps parked their bus or van it would be surrounded and they would be boxed in. Any more ideas that wouldn’t get you sued? These jerks are all lawyers.

I believe you are right. They are trying to smear Baptists and conservatives at the same time by pretending to be both.

Did they show up?
Yes. Photos from this morning showed the police had separated the two groups on either side of the street, enclosed them with metal fence barricades. Caption said they were located a few blocks east of the church, so the people attending the funeral in all likelihood never saw or heard the WBC garbage.
These Westboro fiends are no friends of Christians. It would be better for Christianity if they and their despicable church were struck with fire from God and burned to Hell.
The Bible says the greatest virtue is Charity - something they totally lack and even despise.
Evil must be confronted, and these people are truly, truly evil.
The only peace I have about this vermin is that they will one day get the justice they deserve for maligning the Name of Christ.
Satan's little helpers, they are.
