Raleigh, N.C. A Kansas church famous for its anti-homosexual protests at funerals plans to protest at the Saturday funeral of Elizabeth Edwards, the estranged wife of two-time Democratic presidential candidate John Edwards.
The Westboro Baptist Church plans to protest for 45 minutes before the funeral set for 1 p.m. at Edenton Street United Methodist Church in downtown Raleigh, according to the church's website.
The Westboro church website throws invective at Edwards but gives no specific reason why they chose to protest her funeral.

I’m not fond of Mr. Edwards, either, but someone who can be there needs to call the Patriot Riders and ask them to participate as they do for the funerals of soldiers.
Hence the plans to pickett the funeral of a leftist's spouse. Must be trying to hide their true politics, right? </sarcasm>
Whatever happened to taking cae of the poor and needy as church activities. Then again Westboro Baptist is a sham and a false church mired in hatred.
I am deplore the pain John Edwards caused his wife at the end of her life. However, my extreme anger is directed to these so called Christians. I wish every moment of their days for a year would be disrupted to them as they have done to others.
You have a great idea! I just reached out to them, who knows!
the Westboro kooks are publicity whores and nuttier than cuckoo clocks
Liz Edwards was brought down low and suffered mightily in her life, that should be enough to satisfy their vindictive “god”
Who’s funding these pukes? Soros?
I think it would be wonderful for the Patriot Riders to participate!
What a story that would be! How on earth would liberals counter that? When not as conservatives, or liberals, the Patriot Riders attend as AMERICANS trying to do the decent, right thing?? :*)
If you’d understood the post you replied to, you’d have known that the subject of where they go has no relevance. It’s only about the visibility.
90% of your posts are an attack on the person you are replying to.
I see little difference in these religious crazies and the moosie crazies.
Each take their cause WAAAAYY to far.
This is horrible!
If I were in the area, I would go to protest these jerks. The poor kids have done nothing and don’t need these doofuses at their Mommy’s funeral.
*spit*
What the hell is with these ghouls? They have absolutely no sense of common decency and should be shunned. The poor woman must have had a horrific experience in the last couple of years of her life and simple compassion dictates that her children and family would be spared this ghastly spectacle.
My view is that at this point they are mainly a lawsuit factory, posing as a hate group, posing as a church. Either that or a combination lawsuit factory/hate group posing as a church.
I read an article a couple of years ago that indicated their main goal now seems to be to provoke local law enforcement into “violating their rights to free speech” so they can sue for profit.
Whatever their true motives, they are descipable and clearly not real conservatives or more importantly real Christians.
They seem to be one of the few things that liberals and conservatives agree on. If you are every at a family gathering and the political discussions start to get too contentious, bring up Westboro Baptist and you’ll have instant unity. :-)
Those people are just sick.
“They arent Christian in any sense that I can recognize.”
Can’t you tell by all the love that’s oozing out of them?
Patriot Riders and ask them to participate as they do for the funerals of soldiers
Only if she was a vet will they stand for her.
How many liberals are willing to stand up for the Edwards family and do the same?
Frickin idiots.
The are not Christians and if I ever meet one of these boils, I might seriously consider lancing them.
Please God:
Infest these hillbillies with all sorts of pestilence.
She had a dog of a husband who turned into a jackass.
Does that qualify? /s
