He's throwing all his chips in right now in the hope that all this additional “stimulus” will kick-start the economy and give him a chance at reelection in 2012.

An extra $1000 or so in an average family's pocketbook will result in SOME additional consumer spending, more retail hiring, etc. How much is anyone’s guess.

The problem with this tax plan is that it does nothing to bring permanent jobs back into the market place.

It should have been a real tax CUT ( for 5 years), not just a tax rate cut. Few know the difference it seems.
IMHO the Republicans in the Senate should be ashamed of themselves.
