Federal workers are Americas new favorite target. Last week, President Obama proposed freezing their pay for two years. Getting this deficit under control is going to require some broad sacrifices, he said, and that sacrifice must be shared by the employees of the federal government. Meanwhile, the presidents bipartisan deficit commission endorsed a three-year pay freeze and a 200,000-person reduction of the federal workforce. But are federal workers really the problem behind the struggling economy and the bloated budget? To answer, lets first dispense with some widespread misunderstandings about our federal workforce.
There is one thing for certain and it is not a myth. There are far too many federal workers, my guess is at least 25% to many.
Yes, have all Government employees including federal, state and local, count off and eliminate all the odd numbers.
Then ban all Government unions,
Then eliminate the FCC, Department of Ed, and all congressional staffs.
Most federeal workers I have encountered....and I’ve encountered a lot over the last thirty years practicing law...couldn’t hold down a job at WalMart. Their salaries, pensions and benefits are obscene when compared to the private sector.....a pretty well kept secret to most.
I agree they aren't the cause of the problem. A bit ago I worked as a private contractor in a government facility. The bureaucracy was such that it was difficult to try to be productive.
We had an important set of documents scheduoled for delivery by a certain date, once. All the workers sucked up all the OT and produced a third rate deliverable only a few weeks behind schedule. The schedule was changed and a celebration held for making the deadline.
I told a fellow worker that if I were in charge I would have been throwing stuff and cursing, instead they gave everyone pizza, ice cream, & atta boys. After as while all but the most diligent workers will become disheartened and give up in such an atmosphere.
A lot of DoD postions could be eliminated too
Really don’t think any HERE are targeting Mil or DOD. Would think that most if not all FR support our Military and also recognize the terrible way the dems treat our defenders.
If you’re trying to defend the rest of the FedGov lackies, you are in the wrong place, my friend.
It’s worse. They made a mistake in the list; Prince William County, Virginia is actually #8 or #9 (another federal worker enclave).
Bump
My boss asked for ideas to save money on the over budget and behind schedule job. I suggested going down the hall and laying off every other person. The remaining individuals should still be able to easily accomplish the work and would have less distraction and more incentive.
But you make a good point, a 2nd pass down the hall would probably further improve the situation.
I find it ironic that people are cracking gov workers because they’re pissed at Congress. It’s like wanting to fire all the assembly-line workers at Ford because you’re pissed at the CEO and board of directors.
I’m real impressed with the average contractor—NOT!
Dude you got it wrong. MOST gov “workers” ain’t worth the powder it would take to blow em away. It was bad enough before we learned they were knocking down big bucks for what, to hold us in contempt??
When was the last time government spending went DOWN?
The company I work for brings me in frequent contact with DoD civilians, I find most of them to be very decent to work with. Now, I think that working side by side with active military guys daily helps keep a person centered, maybe that’s the difference. But I still think you’re coloring all these people a certain way because you had a bad experience at the customer window, but I can’t tell you what you’ve experienced.
Without a doubt you likely run into a different type Fed worker than the general public does. I sure hope there are a lot of hidden dedicated ones that recognize that their function is vital.
In the world in which most citizens come into contact with Fed workers is via USPS, IRS, SS, USDA, etc. A significant portion which are affirmative action’ers who look at it a repartations and the others see the attitude of those and emulates. I’m with others here, that suspect if 50% were turned out, no one other than those now without the Gov job would ever know the difference.
