Rep. Ron Paul (R-Texas) is defending WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange's release of thousands of classified diplomatic cables.
In an interview with Fox Business Thursday, Paul went against the opinions of many of his Republican colleagues, asserting that Assange should be given the same protections as the media.
"In a free society we're supposed to know the truth," Paul said. "In a society where truth becomes treason, then we're in big trouble. And now, people who are revealing the truth are getting into trouble for it."
This whole notion that Assange, who's an Australian, that we want to prosecute him for treason. I mean, aren't they jumping to a wild conclusion? he added. This is media, isn't it? I mean, why don't we prosecute The New York Times or anybody that releases this?"
Earlier this week, Attorney General Eric Holder said that the Justice Department is investigating Assange's case to determine whether he can be charged with a crime for leaking the secret documents.
Arkansas Goveror Mike Huckabee went so far as to say Tuesday that Assange should be tried for treason and face the death penalty if proven guilty.
Most U.S. politicians claim that the leaked cables will damage relations with U.S. allies.
Hear ya. Now? Misery loves company ;-)
fyi
Sure. Lying is permissible but truth should be suppressed at all costs.
Emma Goldman... Goldman-Sachs... Leon Czolgosz... Leon Panetta... Gold Standard Act of 1900... Federal Reserve Act... U.S. trade debt with China... Chinese Boxer Rebellion of 1900...
WikiLeaks - Julian Assange and his agent provocateurs are a double fake melodrama, and instead of getting paid in the gold they agreed to, they will get Russian polonium pellets...
Really? I think there are two sides to this mess. Still the Bozo in Chief should have addressed this or at least tried to stop this. It makes us look weak.
See link at #121.
I agree and his leaks exposed Arab countries who say they want Iran taken out. Even the Israeli PM commented that he was glad that information saw the light of day. By the way I noted nothing was really done at all about the Iraq leaks nothing at all but when it came out there would be information on the banks then 24 hours later Interpol issued an arrest warrant, coincidence I think not.
"The serfs don't matter to the Elites.
That's why this country was founded. To change that. And we are losing that as a nation.
Yes we are. But what it will take to reverse this trend seems disturbingly inevitable.
Its why our own Federal bureaucracies try to hyphenate us all in to different interest groups-to play one off against the other-basically international political games exercised internally to the aggregation of authority in the bureaucratic structure.
Well stated. "Diversity" has NEVER been "our Strength."
The legacy, heritage, traditions, and tenets of the Founders have been usurped by globalists thugs and infiltrated by Marxists.
Anyone who has witness the last 20 years of so of the shenanigans of the US fedgov knows - they can't be trusted to represent We The People.
The real issue is that there are Afghans who aided us who now have big targets on their backs. Or at least *a* real issue.
Agree on the AGW stuff, but that’s not the crux of the issue here.
“the Bozo in Chief...”
Mash here...to find out what all this is about.. IMHO..
A-HA!
Since when have the bankers' interest and security been placed ahead of US national security?
Who's really the man behind the curtain?
Off topic, but I thought your previous flag profile was CA...No?
If mainstream sources refuse to report the "real" news, what alternative is there?
We already know The Fix is in at the Times, CNN, NBC, ABC, CBS. I rather take my chances at Drudge and elsewhere, then examine and disseminate what's "real" or credible based on common sense and connecting the dots myself.
It wasn’t the Founders who ruled against yelling “Fire” in a crowded theater. It was Oliver Wendell Holmes of “three generations of imbeciles” fame.
Understood. My point about “nobody” having a problem with the original leaks was that there was no effective, pointed official response at all from anyone — including the U.S. government, international authorities, etc. But now that “sensitive” diplomatic information is leaked and there are threats about damaging exposures about the U.S. banking industry, he suddenly gets put on Interpol’s “Most Wanted” list? You’ve got to be kidding me.
But in a free society with a just and rational government, the job of government is to protect the natural rights of its citizens. It can't do that if secrets are being revealed and chaos is being created.
