Iran hangs former soccer player's mistress

TEHRAN, Iran (AP) -- Iran on Wednesday hanged a former soccer player's mistress — known as a "temporary wife — who was convicted of murdering her love rival in a case that captivated the Iranian public for several years.

Shahla Jahed was hanged at dawn, after spending more than eight years in jail for the slaying of the player's wife, the official IRNA news agency reported.

Jahed had become what is known as a "temporary wife" of former soccer star Nasser Mohammad Khani. She was charged in 2002 with stabbing his wife, Laleh Saharkhizan, to death and convicted of murder in 2004 and again in 2009, after her appeal was denied.

Contracts with "temporary wives" are a legal way for Iranian men to have mistresses outside marriage, with the agreements lasting from between several hours to a few years.

Muslim men are allowed up to four legal wives under Islam and any number of temporary wives. Women can only be married to one man at a time.

I wish other people would understand what you just said. Even in Iran, there will be petty criminals, murderers, etc. And even in the midst of a tyrannical evil government, there will be a few good people who push for justice. If it weren’t true, we still be under the Roman empire or British Empire.

It’s an “honor” thing in Muslim law. The temporary husband attended the hanging, and the stepson got to pull the chair out from under her.

Family males are expected to inflict justice on family females under sharia law. That’s why it’s the father and brothers who cut off their daughter or sister’s head if she is raped—to repair the family honor.

Technically the temporary wife is more of a Shiite thing. The mosques even provide hookers for when people go on pilgrimages to holy sites there. They have a list of fees for terms, from a few hours to a few days. You pay your money and get a sanctioned Muslim marriage to the hooker, uh, new blushing bride, for that set term.

Seriously, the holier-than-thou imams are the pimps. It’s so sad it’s funny.

I don’t think I’ve ever heard of hypocrisy this bad in modern Christianity. The stuff our televangelists pull is downright mundane compared to this.

It's not about family shame, it's about the victim's survivors getting their share. They hanged a serial killer a few years ago who had raped and killed 20 kids. One of the victims' mothers got to put the noose around his neck before they lifted him by crane.
