A top Bank of America executive didn’t rule out the possibility that the financial powerhouse would be the next target of the web site WikiLeaks, which posts confidential government data for the world to see.

“We have had no contact from anybody about this,” Anne Finucane, the bank’s president of global strategy, told an audience at the Boston Harbor Hotel this morning. “I don’t know that it is us.”

Speculation has swirled that WikiLeaks would release internal information from the bank after WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange boasted in an October 2009 interview about having the 5-gigabyte computer hard drive of a Bank of America executive.

>having the 5-gigabyte computer hard drive of a Bank of America executive.

That sounds kind of interesting.

There is absolutely no news in that article.

The Herald is just keeping the sensational ball in the air by talking around what was known as early as yesterday.

You would be scared to the bone knowing what low-level techies can get their hands on. I’ve cannibalized many a desktop in my day, and hard drives are thrown out more often than you’d think.

My advice is using a private encrypted USB disk/thumbdrive. Kingston makes a 256 GB thumbdrive under their “DataTraveler” line. It’s not cheap, but to keep your data private, it’s a good bet. If you use Outlook, create a PST on your thumbdrive and keep your emails in there. There will be cached copies on the Exchange servers, but they’ll eventually be cleaned out.

If he starts messing with the banks he’s going to end up dead.

lol he would be better off turning himself in to Interpol wouldn’t he.

They didn’t do anything to him when it was just about the War or other information.

Amazing how fast they issued a warrant when it came out he had information on the banks - 24 hours!

When I scrap one of my computers, I reformat the hard drive and remove it from the computer.

I then take it in the back yard 'cleanse' it of any residual data by shooting it 10+ times with either a .357 magum revolver, a .45 Colt revolver, a .45 ACP semi-auto pistol, a 9mm semi-auto pistol, a .223 rifle, a 7.62x39 rifle, a .30-.30 rifle or a 12 gauge shot gun.

I have not encountered a 'techie' yet who has been able to retrieve even a single byte from a hard drive upon which I have used my 'data cleansing' method.

LOL! Well that will certainly guarantee data can’t be retrieved by conventional means. There are better technical ways to accomplish the same thing but have a usable disk when you’re done. I do like your method though, esp. for those older <1GB hard disks I kept from the 90s.

>5-gigabyte computer hard drive

So is that getting leaked before or after the punchcards and 5 1/4s?
