Canadian funnyman and actor Leslie Nielsen has passed away in hospital in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida.
The star of comedy hits such as "Airplane" and the "Naked Gun" series dies of complications from pneumonia, according to his nephew Doug Nielsen, who lives in Richmond
Doug Nielsen told CJOB that the actor passed away at a hospital in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. The Canadian actor had been hospitalized for nearly two weeks as a result of pneumonia.
"Just in this last 48 hours, the infection has gotten too much and today at 5.30, with his friends and his wife by his side, he just fell asleep and passed away," Doug told the radio station.

I remember the ‘serious’ Leslie turning up in the ‘Man from U.N.C.L.E. back in the 60’s...

Very sad to hear this news. He had a long career, from low budget TV to dramatic roles, and then an unlikely turn later on to comedy. He was great.
Just learned the other day that Police Squad was based on an old TV show called M Squad with Lee Marvin. Lead character was even named Frank.

He was Canadian? We’re gonna miss him less then!
To: greatdefender
I always think of him from “Forbidden Planet” tho Ann Francis is the one I really think of.
That was a very good movie too.

> Watching his non-comedy roles makes me feel weird. Over the course of his career, he played far more dramatic and TV Western roles than he ever did as a comedy guy. He also played "the heavy" in a lot of his early roles. A very versatile and talented actor.

Rest in peace.
Funny and good guy.

Really hated this guy when he seemed to be in every TV Movie of the Week. Little did I know what a comic genius he was.

Leslie was also in one of my favorite MASH episodes, where Hawkeye convinces him he’s crazy, one way by making him think that Frank Burns was a cross-dresser who had a crush on him.
