Obama Nominates Anti-Gunner To Regulate Guns & Ammo
CCRKBA ^ | November 26, 2010 | Staff

ALERT: Obama has nominated gun-grabber Andrew Traver as the director of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives!

The Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms today is announcing its opposition to Traver's nomination.

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (BAFTE) is a federal law enforcement organization that investigates federal offenses involving firearms, explosives, and the illegal trafficking of alcohol and tobacco products.

BAFTE is also in charge of regulating the sale, possession, and transportation of guns and ammo across state lines.

Traver is currently special agent in charge of Chicago's BATFE field division, where he has a history of working with gun prohibitionists.

He served as an advisor to the International Association for Chiefs of Police on that group's 2007 "Gun Violence Reduction Project," in cooperation with the anti-gun rights Joyce Foundation.

This project involved several high profile anti-gun-rights advocates (including Chicago Mayor Richard Daley.) Interestingly enough, there was not a single representative from the firearms community on the advisory panel.

Obama Stomps On Constitution

"The nomination of Andrew Traver is more proof that Barack Obama has complete disregard for the Second Amendment and the rights of firearms owners," said CCRKBA Chairman Alan Gottlieb. "We have serious concerns that the agency, under his leadership, will maintain any semblance of cooperation with the firearms industry, over which BATFE exercises considerable control."

Traver's history shows that if he's successfully nominated, there's no chance that he will work with the firearms industry. Traver helped develop the IACP/Joyce Foundation report, which recommended banning an array of modern sport-utility rifles and .50-caliber rifles used in long-range competition. The report also encouraged Congress to repeal the Tiahrt Amendment that protects sensitive trace data used by law enforcement in criminal investigations from being misused in frivolous municipal lawsuits that have consistently lost in court, and urged the adoption of restrictive gun show regulations that would effectively force them to close.

"Mr. Traver appears to be joined at the hip to various gun control and gun ban efforts," Gottlieb observed. "The Citizens Committee, its members and supporters across the country oppose this nomination because Traver's history clear shows that he is not the right man for such an important job."

Putting Andrew Traver in charge of an organization that decides whether we can buy, sell or transport guns is the first of many steps Obama and his anti-gun zealots are taking to crush our Second Amendment Rights. As we saw with his Supreme Court nominations, Obama's m.o. is to stuff as many anti-Second Amendment extremists into our most powerful offices of government. Enough is Enough.

We must stop Obama from abusing his power to snatch away our gun rights. If we don't act now, our rights will be gone forever. We need the help of patriots like you to ensure our right to bear arms and protect ourselves and our families is not destroyed.

This is further reason to believe that Obama plans to use the Executive Branch to make law and render the legislative branch insignificant.

It is up to the legislative branch to take control by nullifying any executive order that creates any new bureaucracy and spends money for it’s development.
We have to have this constitutional showdown between government branches or one branch will have all the power.

Well, anything that he does try will have to be on Executive Order - I just don’t see the House going on a gun-grabbing binge.

I can see another Christmas Eve push for some nightmarish piece of legislation that rolls a health care reform severability clause, the "Dream Act" and a number of gun-control measures into one big, ugly package. The question is, will Nancy Pelosi's imminent return as Minority Leader compel the Dems who aren't packing up their offices to stick their necks out?

For that matter, are there enough departing representatives to pass something like this out of pure spite?

If Obama can’t get him approved by Congress in this lame-duck session, he will recess-appoint him, allowing Traver to serve until 2012.

Face it, folks, this is another move by Obama to incite violence by those on the right.

Once that happens, a compliant MSM will assist as Obama eviscerates talk radio, Fox News, the internet and any other haven of conservatism.

Good point - like most Americans I’m much more interested in what they’re saying about Bristol, rather than the dangers of this lame duck Congress, or a Korean nuclear war, for that matter. Thanks for the reminder.

Can you believe that they called her a prostitute? That just angers me to no end.

He intends to dis-arm Americans! Obama is not going to slow down on his agenda to remake this country into his image. for this country.

God has revealed BO for what he is...time and time again...the people still have their head up their rears. Until they get all their freedoms removed or monitored they will not see this administration nor Obama as he is. We wouldn’t have Bo without the numbskulls votes. Stupid ignorant people at all levels!

"Don't have any firearms any more .. they fell out when my canoe tipped over ...."

If anything I can say FReepers are exceptionally prone to water accidents. Just last year I was in a boat on Tablerock when a jet ski came by and caused a 'wash' tipping my boat, me, guns, food, fishing gear etc...completely over. *sigh* No more guns (you just can't replace the originals...) no more gear.

I've read about this type of thing happening to many of my fellow FReepers. Sad really...

This nomination will undoubtedly accelerate the move by a number of states to disable the BATF’s rule over in-state guns.

Probably not a good strategy for O.

No, obams shits on the Constitution, he doesn’t stomp on it.

If omama decides to run this appointment through the Senate, who, on this forum, believes that Lindsey Graham and probably John Mc Cain will vote to confirm him?

Are you now the custodian of the long-running CWII ping list, or is this something... parallel?

Just curious. ;-)

A simple case of independent parallel development.

Y’know, I intended to post an “E Plebnista” comment following the recent elections - but I reconsidered, thinking it a bit premature at this point. Still love to see the Kohms losing ground, though.
