OCEANSIDE, Calif. (AP) -- They are the few, the proud and perhaps the military's biggest opponents of lifting the ban on openly gay troops.

Most of those serving in America's armed forces have no strong objections to repealing the "don't ask, don't tell" law, according to a Pentagon survey of 400,000 active duty and reservists that is scheduled for release Tuesday.

The Theban Sacred Band (if it existed at all) was comprised of only one hundred fifty homosexual couples. The US military today is about 1.4 million active and 1.4 million in the reserves. That's a lot of tough-as-nails gay couples to recruit.

Red dog's argument is exactly how I see it as well. Letting males and females share the same barracks or fighting holes would be the heterosexual equivalent of letting homos serve openly. Look what is happening in the Navy with females serving on board ships - a lot of babies will be claiming the ocean as their place of birth when they grow up. The bottom line is that straights who aren't comfortable sleeping next to copulating homos will leave the military.

Yes, I was a hospital corpsman for almost 20 years, including eight years in marine units. Sept. 2004-Mar. ‘05, I was near Baghdad, in the Triangle of Death, in a marine infantry battalion.

I’ll concede we have alot of them, but I think we are running neck in neck with the Navy.

Have you been watching NCIS? We started at the beginning with DVDs and it seems like every other episode has a gay Navy character - sometimes the good guy, sometimes the bad. I really liked the show at first, but that theme's getting really old.
