In a statement Thursday, Costa Rica's foreign ministry said the country had filed a lawsuit at the International Court of Justice in The Hague, Netherlands, to end a situation that "threatens imminent and irreparable harm" to Costa Rica.
The suit asks the court to stop "the construction of a canal on Costa Rican soil," according to the statement.

Nicaragua with it's Somoza-ist government is working with Venezuela, Cuba and Iran to make a rival canal to the Panama Canal (which is in the midst of an enormous expansion). The rationale is that Panama is too pro-west for the "Mundo Socialismo" dreams of Hugo Chavez and company. Since, by recent International Court (Hague) ruling, Costa Rica owns the south bak of the route desired, Nicaragua sees a favorable disparity of the Costa Rican National Guard versus the Nicaraguan Army.
Peaceable socialist progressives - right?
