He points out that the reactions that produce oil and gas abiotically inside the crust could happen in the mantle...

Did anyone else notice this little land mine embedded in the article?

Oh I did for sure...

Now they’ll have to cleanse all who have seen the remark...

Yep. Pretty subtle.

"Did anyone else notice this little land mine embedded in the article? "

Petroleum industry chatter has taken notice of it for decades.

What's the problem?

Abiotically means "without life". Are you trying to claim that gas and oil can only be produced from biological material?

I think it's pretty settled that gas and oil can be produced by purely geological and chemical means.

The only question has been how much of it gets produced, not whether it could be produced.

It could very well "rain in" from space from time to time.

Yep. No attempt to look for other sources, just an assumption that because some methane is produced abiotically, that all methane is. Someone needs to eat more beans and get a clue.

I did notice that nugget, and was going to post it...then I saw your post about it...then I saw the time stamp.

Here it is again, anyway:

He points out that the reactions that produce oil and gas abiotically inside the crust could happen in the mantle,

I thought this concept was a major poo-pooing trigger from both mainstream scientists as well as environuts.

Sounds like Gold and the Russkies may be vindicated in the not so distant future.
