White House, GOP look for middle ground on taxes (McCain says yes to tax hikes) (BARF ALERT)
AP ^ | 2010-11-14

(snip)

...Sen. John McCain of Arizona, the Republican presidential contender in 2008, said he could fathom a short-term extension of all the tax cuts. McCain voted against the Bush tax cuts, saying they disproportionately benefited wealthy Americans and did not rein spending.

"They should be extended until we are out of this recession," McCain said. "At such time we can look at other tax hikes. But when we're in a serious recession I cannot believe that raising taxes is a good thing on anybody."

In fact, the recession officially ended in June 2009, but the recovery has been markedly slow, with unemployment stuck at 9.6 percent, and in danger of sputtering.

I’m in favor of extending the Bush tax cuts for everyone except the top 2% of wage earners—they can afford to pay what they paid during the Clinton years. This country is facing economic disaster, and tax breaks should be saved for those who need them the most and which would bring the greatest economic benefit to the country. If we need tax cuts beyond this, we should cut payroll taxes.

You fell for the liberal bulls***.

The top 2% of wage earners often create the most jobs.

Get off their necks.

This was settled in the 80’s. Reagan tax cuts led to higher tax revenues. Libs cried and cried that the country could not afford tax cuts (similar to your argument) during a recession but they were wrong just like you. I have never gotten a job from a poor person. All my jobs came from one a private employer risking his capital in hope of earning profits and paying taxes. Carter strangled big business which resulted in less profits/less tax revenues. Reagan took the Feds boot off the throat of business and let them thrive with more profits/increased tax revenues.

I humbly suggest our side has accepted an untruth in framing this debate at the outset.

This isn’t about “The Bush Tax Cuts.” We should call this what it is: “The Obama Tax Increases.”

It was probably a big mistake to prod him here because I'm probably going to get slimed again...

So you admit that you were here to pick a fight.

Nice.

That worthless communist b*st*rd needs to go, along with the rest of the RINOs and the democRATS. He's but marginally better than the idiot that presently occupies the White House.

The only fair income tax is a FLAT income tax, with no deductions, no credits, no special treatments, and no way for the government to use the tax system to steer bahavior.

It's about time that the freeloading deadbeats that make up the base of the democRAT party pay their fair share.

And without McCain, Sarah Palin is still in Alaskan obscurity.

Actually, she'd probably still be Alaska's governor. And promoting Palin to the national scene is not worth the cost of destroying what's left of our constitutional republic. This man needs to go.

What is wrong with the voters in Arizona, putting this idiot back in the Senate time after time? Is there massive voter fraud in that state or something? There can't possibly be that many stupid people.

It doesn't matter what "they can afford" - they should be treated equally to all other citizens. This "tax the rich" BS is just people acting on their jealousy. They want the riches that go along with effort and risk, but they don't want to move beyond their easy lifestyle to EARN them.

This country is facing economic disaster, and tax breaks should be saved for those who need them the most and which would bring the greatest economic benefit to the country. If we need tax cuts beyond this, we should cut payroll taxes.

This country's government is facing economic disaster BECAUSE IT IS SPENDING LIKE A DRUNKEN SAILOR, not because it isn't stealing enough of the fruit of other people's labor. The key to saving this government, this whole country is to end socialism. Quit spending. Quit buying the votes of deadbeats with other people's money. Quit redistributing other people's earnings. Quit trying to be the next USSR. QUIT SPENDING!!

It has been shown, time and again, that raising taxes reduces economic activity and future tax reciepts. Look back on the FDR years - we were stuck in a recession/depression for a decade because of an over-reaching and overtaxing government. Look at the decades of prosperity that came after the Reagan tax cuts.

What-else would you expect? At least you didnt get accused of “ Breaking the rules ” and getting called “ rule-breaker ”. That is standard fare for this specimen of the walking dead(Bush-bot), those that can't get out (mentally) of 2002. Just remember: It's all about her.

RE :” And as for what I've done for conservatism, the list is long (see above post to rabs). I've helped unseat RINO’s in primaries, made thousands of calls for conservatives (yes, conservatives), served on committees of conservative candidates, donated to many conservative candidates across the country, been involved in the pro-life movement, raised a soldier, been in the Tea Party since day one.

And her son is a bronze star recipient who shook GWB’s hand and got called ‘son’ by him.(OH-OH) .

It wasn't the Tea party, it wasn't Palin, it wasnt Armey or Beck, it wasnt Rove, it wasn't even a rejection of Obama and Pelosi who did it. It was this one lone Bush-bot flying around the country campaigning for ‘conservatives’ that won this election. Soon she will write a book : “How GWB inspired me to create the Tea Party and beat Democrats in 2010 to show the world that he really was a success, by touching me”. It is ALL about her. Yet he never mentioned her in his new book "Decision Points". But when she reads it he is talking to her.

I’ve got a better middle ground:

Republicans want spending to be cut by 25% and Dems want it to remain at Obama’s levels so let’s cut it by 12.5% this year in real terms. Republicans want to cut taxes and Dems want to increase them so the middle ground is leave them where they are.

Enjoyed both of your responses this morning.

rabs, let me know if you ever actually join the conservative movement. It will be good to have you involved. And thanks for not spewing filth when I poked you a little bit yesterday. That's a big improvement from the past. Maybe some day we can actually have a discussion about our similarities and differences and how we can work together to continue to rid the country of this Marxist dictator wannabe.

It's up to you.

(Lakeshark, if you don't mind, I'm pinging you to list some of the liberals rabs supports....the ones you have pointed out previously. I have an old memory. :)

Oh.......and I hate McCain, so opposing him is most certainly not an effort to divide. Actually, I don't know anyone who actually supports him on this board. Perhaps you do, but I don't know one.

Hope that's clear.

Wow. You are one sick kid.

Maybe if you'd stop lying through your teeth it wouldn't have to be about me, eh?Truth matters. (It's a conservative value).

btw, still waiting for a single thing you did in the midterms to help elect a conservative......

**crickets**

My point, calcow, is that the 'conservatives' on this board who are the hardest on "Bushbots" do absolutely nothing to elect conservatives. Nothing at all. WE do.

btw, ask rabs about Chuck Baldwin, whom he supported in 2008 who believes that the Haiti earthquake was caused by black ops

Ask him if he supports 9/11 truthers, the Ground Zero mosque, blaming Americans for 9/11......ask him those things.

Also you should know that sickoflibs has been called an "idiot troll" by JimRob.

(I can look up the link if you'd like).

Between his inability to control the women in his life and RINO stunts like this, this will be his last term of office.

Arizona voters buy his election-year rightward lurch hook, line and sinker every six years. He will leave the Senate when he leaves this earth, and not a moment sooner.

“Liar, Liar, Liar”, who would have predicted that?

Is someone threatening me with past links? Like they have a ‘truth file’ on me? Who would do a thing like that? Not someone in a glass house.

You can look at the FDR years another way—that the economy didn’t recover until the massive spending brought on by WW2. Many economists say the current financial crisis is similar to the one that brought on the Great Depression and that a similar response is needed to get the economy going again. It’s beyond my expertise, for sure.

As to the Reagan tax cuts, again there are different interpretations. When Reagan became president he inherited a national debt of about one trillion dollars. When he left office, it was close to three times that. When Bush left office at the end of this period of “prosperity”, the national debt was ten trillion dollars. Prosperity purchased by nine trillion dollars of deficit spending is not real prosperity. Moreover, the real wages of the middle class, adjusted for inflation, scarcely moved up at all during this thirty year period. Only the rich did well. Whereas during the years following WW2, the middle class prospered.

Hey.......I have an idea, sick. Let's make this about YOU, OK?

Answer theses questions....

1. Why didn't you do anything to elect conservatives in the 2010 midterms?
2. Do you feel guilty that you didn't do anything to take part in the conservative insurgence?
3. Why do you have so much trouble with telling the truth?
4. Do you feel guilty when you tell so many tall tales?
5. Do you understand that even when you don't use your own name you should tell the truth? That morality isn't 'anonymous?'
6. Did it bother you when JimRob called you an "idiot troll?"
7. Did you feel like you were more conservative than JimRob when he called you that?
8. Are you ever planning to do anything to elect conservatives? 2012??
8. Does it bother you to have the honor of Bill Clinton and the humor of Obama (derision of conservatives)?
9. Have you graduated yet from reading Wiki for your history lessons?
10. Are you ever planning to join the conservative movement, via Tea Party, or any other means of activism? (FR provides lots of opportunity - try utilizing this great resource).

THESE thing inquiring minds want to know.

Because, you see, sick, it's never been about ME, it's always been about US.....we conservatives - the real ones, that is.

And you just aren't one of us and at the rate you're going, you never will be. Period.
