Would Barack Obama be a stronger president if he announced today that he will not run for re-election in 2012? Democratic strategists Pat Caddell and Doug Schoen say the answer is yes.
"If the president goes down the reelection road, we are guaranteed two years of political gridlock at a time when we can ill afford it," Caddell and Schoen write in Sunday's Washington Post. "But by explicitly saying he will be a one-term president, Obama can deliver on his central campaign promise of 2008, draining the poison from our culture of polarization and ending the resentment and division that have eroded our national identity and common purpose."

Do Pat Caddell and Doug Schoen seriously think that this would change anything? There would still be an election in 2012. The political dynamics wouldn’t change at all.
The only thing that would change is that the rats would be able to field a competitive candidate for President.

Be careful what u wish for. If Obama and Biden resign now, we will have President Pelosi for at least 2 more years with another 8 possible after that.
I think others will make the decision for him. First one is Hillary. If she decides to run she’s a shoe-in for the dem nomination. Secondly, it depends on whether the dems can suffer any more bleeding by his hand. If the dem leadership suddenly becomes born-again birthers then you know it’s over.
It'd make things tougher on the Republican candidate, running against someone other than this stinker. However, is Barry *really* just going to bail out and give up four more years of opulent vacations and golf, golf, golf? Not bloody likely.
