I wouldn't be so quick to claim that no SLBM (or even a barge-launched missile) of any kind, made by any nation, "kicks in" or otherwise makes course corrections of the kind shown in the film. There may be some analysts who possess such knowledge, but I would imagine there aren't many.
I am SO positive this was a jetliner that I would GLADLY put “I AM AN IDIOT” in my sig if this is proven to be a missile. I wonder if “missile truthers” here are so sure of themselves that they would be willing to do the same if it is proven to be a jetliner.

I saw the picture from inland eastern Calif looking towards the coast and I said it was a sub based ICBM launch.
The “contrail” came up from the sea and it had a lot of thick smoke. Whatever it was it was using a LOT of propellant. Too much for a anti aircraft or star wars interceptor missile.

Experts are wrong on a regular basis.
I would also point out that conspiracy theorists ignore experts as well when they disagree with the "clear evidence" of a conspiracy. I was a SAC crew chief but I've been told I know nothing about planes because I don't believe Flight 800 was hit by a missile. Truthers will tell you that firefighting experts who describe the way the towers fell because of steel being heated by a jet fuel fire are shills for the government. I've watched moon landing conspiracy people be shown that they couldn't possibly be correct that Apollo photos were faked, and ignore it, moving onto the next piece of "proof" that we never landed on the moon.
In the real world, it comes down to proof.

Sorry, but it’s an age where we all have to think for ourselves, and carefully choose which “experts” we can believe.
Well as much as writing in red and a large font compelled me to agree, again, look at the footage and see the flicker and changes in color.

I’ll take the word of a General and other experts over some of these freepers who oddly seem almost desperate by demeaning those who believe it is a missile.

Nah. I think if it was a jet contrail, it would have to be coming towards the coast.
If it was a plane, how come this thread doesn’t appear repeatedly, every single week of every year?
Why have Californians only found this one, “spectacular” launch/contrail, when they’ve witnessed thousands?
Why did this one light up the entire sky?
Why are rocket engineer friends working out west who send up things from Vandenberg, now completely shocked by the footage?
Why are they now silent — unlike how how openly they spoke during the first 36 hours?

You neglect the possibility that they aren’t the experts they say they are, which leaves the way clear for your second possibility.
