A mysterious smoke plume that looked like a missile firing off the California coast on Monday may have been an aircraft and not a missile, U.S. military officials said.

Holy crapola, it is so clearly a missile path. I think a message was sent to the monkey eared president. I think his depends were changed immediately after he was informed and then he was given his Prozac shot before being tucked into bed.
Try this video. The scale is a little larger and there is an ex-defense official's commentary.

If it was a Russian sub (which I think is most likely given their recent ICBM test launches and bomber and fighter stunts), the sub would have been in international waters, right? Not an act of war.
It happened Monday, no? That should read 1108....not 1109.
Kind of give you the creeps. Imagine being their watching it all the time thinking a missile looks to be on its way towards you.
Like this one? (Vandenberg, 2006, Minuteman III) This image is the beginning of a 6700 mile ballistic trajectory. Definitely not an airplane. The CBS video looks similar. We Wernher Von Braun wannabes see a medium sized rocket here. Not the first time the DoD has dummied up over cool stuff flying through the air.
Well a missile is a craft of sorts. And it was in the air.
Oh, this good very good. Question: What is tail number of the aircraft that is alleged to have been possibly (ahem) in the area being discussed?
I hope who ever concocted this fairy tail doesn’t think it meets the “plausible deniability” definition.
"The 9th! Whadda you mean today is the 9th? We launched on the eighth???"
Thanks for the link!
I hadn’t had a chance to see this anywhere else.
I heard on the radio that one explanation is a jet that’s actually flying towards the camera, making it look like it was shooting upwards.
Nope, not seeing that happening...
If indeed the brass really doesn’t know what this was , then I think we’ll never know how close we were from a total nuclear response, due to our status of “Launch on Warning”
I agree with you. I live about 75 miles east of Memphis TN.
This time of year under the right light conditions I have seen the same thing. A heavy Fed-Ex descending from the west will produce a similar contrail.
The video looks kind of fishy too. Like 2 edited and spliced together.
West should read southwest.
And this has exactly what to do with a missle fired 35 miles off the coast of California?
Try this. Same launch, different camera. Tons of telltale trajectories here.
Russians playing games.
Let’s get Alex Jones on for the full 8 Hours...
Thanks, RR!
Even to my untrained eye, it doesn’t seem possible that it was an airplane. Besides, how many planes are taking off 35 miles from shore?
