Well, I’m not sure if they were smart enough even to see it as a new market to be tapped.
We have poured hundreds of billions into Iraq, fixing their infrastructure and repairing their oil facilities. And then they turned around and gave most of the business to the Chinese and others.
The leftist mantra was “No blood for oil.” But the practical result seems to have been “No oil for blood.”
I thought that Bush was far too NICE to Iraq. It seems to me that after having taken out Saddam, who was stirring up trouble and deeply involved in 9/11, it would only have been reasonable for Iraqi oil to pay at least some of the costs of taking him out.

It's just that I would wonder who did get rich off of this action? Certainly not the American people who were stuck with the bill, but military contractors did pretty well. In the political longterm, Islam also did very well.
