Taking Governorship, Congressional Seat from GOP: While the momentum across the country this Nov. 2 election was largely with Republicans, in Hawaii, the trend was the opposite leading some to call Republicans an “endangered species.”

My Hawaiian friend proudly claimed herself as a moderate but whenever we talked politics, she talked conservative.....I finally pointed this out to her and when day she said “I have been thinking about this and I think you are right, I am a conservative.”

I've been living here for 41 years now and you pretty much nailed the situation in Hawaii. Inouye and Akaka will be in office until THEY decide to quit or more than likely die. We did vote in a Republican mayor here on Maui but lost the Governor race to a full on progressive “60s” idiot hippie.
He totally screwed the American people in congress and now has come home to roost and lay more liberal eggs here. Maui was again this year voted the “Best Island in the World”, it's a shame that the people here are so stupid. I had a local friend tell me that he could not possible vote Republican , if his family , who forever has voted Democrat, found out they would disown him. Thus Abercrombie is in, probably until he can't run anymore. Pathetic.

We are going to gird up , buckle down and FIGHT!

No surrender

Just give us some recognition , acknowledgment and support
( not $)
Just know that their is a fight to the death going on out here and we are utterly outnumbered and overwhelmed .
No thanks to the RNC ......

a bunch of poop rats

I think one of the biggest problems Republicans have is that a significant number of them are snobs.

I think that's one reason why Christine O'Donnell lost in Delaware.

I hardly know anything about Hawaii and I couldn't think of giving you advice.

Forget that, I'll give you some advice. Be consistent in the policies and solutions you advocate, draw clear lines, be vocal but be polite and when things fall apart your group might be the one people turn to.

great advice ! thanks

It’s true , many are snobs .
It became apparent to me that there are now at least 2 kinds of Republicans ; the grass roots , down home , Tea party types , the true patriots and the great Americans .
Then there are the mainstream , rigid, condescending , self righteous types , who view the Tea Party people with suspicion and disrespect , because they cannot be co-opted or controlled . They don’t understand about coalitions of forces .They guard their authority and their funds .
This is why the Dems snake um out here , because the Dems come on as a team ( after the primaries ) Hi. Repubs tend to be intolerant and exclusive .
They are like folks that go stand on a train track and pray to the Lord to “please keep me safe from the oncoming train”
Prayer is good , but sometimes you have to fight also .
If Israel only prayed but did not fight , they would have ceased to exist a long time ago . Same with Republicans in Hawaii

I thought they wanted their independence. Give it to them and just get long term leases for the military bases. It would be cheaper in the long run to cut Hawaii loose. They can sink or swim as an independent nation.

You guys have been here a lot longer than I (a bit over 4 yrs), so you are much more attuned to the local politics.

That said, I worked with a guy a few years back who was active in the local Republican machine. He told me that assuming a democrat here was the same as a mainland dem was a mistake, that it was a difficult call where their political views were until you knew their history. IOW, some democrats would easily qualify as Republicans on the mainland, that party affiliation did not mean as much as it does in say, Ohio.

Witness the ease of passage of the law prohibiting police from confiscating firearms during an emergency. Think such a law would pass in most mainland blue states?

It does seem different here, with the exception of turds like Abercrombie, in that D-R is not quite so clear in agenda and beliefs. Still learning, and know there is much history with missionaries and such that taint current conditions.

Hawaii is another former nation ruined by liberal socialism. It lives off of tourism, the military, and welfare. At one time, it looked as if the Japanese were going to own Hawaii. If we were smart, we would sell it to them.

Hey guys, the GOP made tiny gains in the State House.

But

http://www.kitv.com/r/25653221/detail.html

Lost 1 of it’s 2 Senate seats. It’s down to ONE Republican only in the Hawaii State Senate, Sam Slom. I guess he’s the minority leader. Damn.

I’m guessing the last shutout in any legislative body was back in the Deep South during the 60’s or 50’s.

Tropical paradise, political nightmare.

Actually, I believe right after Watergate, Alabama had zero Republicans in the State Senate. And now they’ve got the majority, talk about a rapid realignment !
