GOP: Gay Old Party? More gays voted Republican than in 2008
Washington Post ^ | NOVEMBER 4, 2010 | Jonathan Capehart

Posted on 11/04/2010 3:12:31 PM PDT by RobinMasters

If you want more data that gay men and lesbians are pretty much just like everyone else -- worried about the economy, freaked out about the direction of the country and perhaps ticked at the slow pace of change with regard to their civil rights -- get a load of this exit poll result.

Gay men, lesbians and bisexuals who self-identified to exit pollsters made up 3 percent of those casting ballots in House races on Tuesday, and 31 percent of them voted Republican. By itself, that number is amazing, especially when you consider that way too many people think being gay and voting Democratic are one in the same. But that percentage is ominous news for a White House viewed with suspicion by many gay men and lesbians, because that's four percentage points higher than the change election of 2008.

Why shouldn’t they? Gays own businesses, too. Gays invest in the stock market, too.

I wonder. I don’t understand why they are so ticked off against BO. Most are pretty hardcore left, and he certainly has been. Perhaps the closet affiliation?

The Hillbuzz awakening was due to the chicanery in the primary, but for the less political I don’t understand their animus - but I’ll take it.

And you know the Post is writing this and headlining it the way it is to get a rise out of social conservatives. Hey, they need to cheer themselves up after the election by stiring the pot with Republican constituencies.

One of the reason is ALSO the Birth Certificate Issue.

Good.

The Republican’s can’t go on losing every minority group by huge percentages forever. Not all homosexuals are pushing for the traditional far left gay agenda.

A guy I've known from Elementary school on up came out as gay in his mid 40’s. To be honest we all knew he was gay since about 7th grade, even as he had his token girlfriend. Never married, no kids. Against abortion, fiscally restrained, has always been registered Republican and voted Republican, voted Conservative if the option was there. Has an MBA and runs a business. No way would he ever vote for Obama. Also doesn't feel the need for gay marriage. Sees it as a wedge issue to keep gays voting democrat, against most of their better interests. I think he favors civil unions, though. Just saying... I don't agree with everything he says but he's a nice guy who is gay and always supports conservatives.

I like HillBuzz too. I always look for some sign that, despite their bitterness at the party, they still support Democrats or Dem policies but I never see it. Its surprising.

Maybe they are startign to figure out one-issue voting is really really bad and being able to get married is not so good if you are in a communist country

Not every Conservative is a social conservative and not every “gay” is invested in the “gay agenda”.

A preference for “small government” is a preference that can “swing both ways”. /sarc (I just couldn’t pass that one up)

Yay! Welcome!! Don’t let anyone make you feel unwanted here (and some will try!). Smart people are finding out that Democrats welcome GROUPS, to patronize and pit them against other groups!

We welcome AMERICANS!!! Of all stripes!!! We are about FREEDOM, and that benefits every single American!!!

This is surprising only in Jonathan Capehart's little world. Sexuality is not everything. These people--like all people--have other concerns, and the overriding concern of all sentient Americans is the destruction of the United States by the so-called "Liberals" (a misnomer, of course), Democrat politicians, and the Establishment Newsmedia.

ANYBODY who wants the United States to survive is profoundly concerned--and is determined to throw the Democrats out of office! That's the only hope for the survival of the United States.
