CNN Poll: Large advantage for GOP as election nears (Republicans 52-42 Dems)

Two days before the midterm elections, a new national poll indicates that Republicans have a 10-point lead over the Democrats in a crucial indicator in the battle for control of Congress.

The GOP's 10 point advantage in the "generic ballot" question in a CNN/Opinion Research Corporation national survey released Sunday is slightly larger than the seven point advantage Republican candidates had on the eve of the 1994 midterms, when the party last took control of Congress from the Democrats.

"But unlike 1994, when polls indicated the public had a positive view of the Republican party, a majority of Americans now do not have a favorable view of the GOP," says CNN Polling Director Keating Holland.

According to the poll, 52 percent of likely voters say they will vote for the generic Republican in their congressional district, with 42 percent saying they will vote for the generic Democrat, four percent saying neither and two percent undecided. The GOP's 10-point lead is up from a seven-point advantage in a CNN poll conducted in early October.

This is great news. For months I have worried the Republicans had peaked too soon. I couldn’t imagine voter anger persisting all the way through Election Day at the intense levels we’ve seen since the health plan passed last March. But if anything, it appears to have amplified, culminating in what I hope will be a “wave election” of nearly unprecedented historical magnitude.

I voted last Wednesday and hope that everyone at FR makes a point to cast their vote rather than just sit back and assume the teanami will arrive without anyone needing to lift a finger.

Yeah, CNN--get that "but" in there. The obvious (and omitted) fact is that if the public does not have a favorable view of republicans, and yet they still prefer republicans by 10% over the democrats, they must have a really, really unfavorable view of democrats.

Seeing as this was done by CNN, you can add an additional +15 to the GOP side.

Nevermind my last post. Three percentage points higher NOW is huge. It could be the difference, in tight races, between getting away with voter fraud and not getting away with it.

I don’t have a favorable view of liberal RINO Republicans, so I would fit in with having a negative view.

I’m voting for one Republican on Tuesday, Pat Toomey.

A lot of people are sick of liberal GOP leaders but will vote for their local Republicans, often conservative candidates.

In the first situation, a leading pollster has admitted to manufacturing poll results to achieve a desired result. On the August 19, 1998, CNN Moneyline show with Lou Dobbs, CNN Polling Director Keating Holland discussed how he manipulated Clinton’s numbers upward to meet their expectations after plummeting from the Lewinsky affair. Holland’s justification for this breach of polling integrity was that the question had been worded wrong and if different wording had been used, Clinton’s numbers would have been higher.

I’ll be sure to watch FOX but I may be tempted to DVR the MSNBC network so that, if Dems take the bath that we hope they will, I can later go back and watch the meltdown. You can be certain that, if the stats bear out and Pubs gain the ground we think they will that MSNBC and CNN will both have talking heads quoted ad nauseum as to how STUPID and UNINFORMED the voters must be and making noises about Republican poll watchers intimidating the Dem vote, etc., Could be a lot of fun to watch!
