The races for lieutenant governor and attorney general are too close to suggest that any candidate has a firm edge going into Tuesday's election, according to the latest Field Poll released Friday.
San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom, a Democrat, is hanging onto a slim five-point edge of 42 percent to 37 percent over Republican Lt. Gov. Abel Maldonado.
The survey also found that Los Angeles County District Attorney Steve Cooley the GOP candidate for attorney general has dipped to a one-point lead over Democratic rival Kamala Harris, San Francisco's district attorney.
The latest survey, which was conducted Oct. 14-26, found voters prefer Cooley over Harris 39 percent to 38 percent, a virtual dead heat. Six weeks ago, Cooley had a four-point lead.
The race for attorney general is "following the patterns we are seeing at the top of the ticket ... traditional Democratic voters are coming home," said pollster Mark DiCamillo, noting the trend in the race for U.S. senator and governor.
However, DiCamillo said, "these two races are deviating from recent elections (for the same two offices) in California, where Democrats have ruled the roost," with pre-election surveys showing them firmly ahead.

RINO Maldonado is losing to Gavin “Any Twosome” Newsom, while Cooley is having a hard time against Anti-Death-Penalty Harris in a pro-death-penalty state.
CA voters need to forget third parties and write ins in the race for Lt. Gov and Atty Gen. Newsom must be stopped now. “Gay marriage whether you like it or not” Newsom has presidential ambitions. If he wins this race, he will be Governor next and then CA will be exporting him to the national scene. Harris is the definition of a soft on crime liberal. Cooley will be a great Atty Gen.
If it takes a RINO to stop Newsom, then so be it. As a former Santa Maria resident, I’ve watched Maldonado over the years and he’s been a good advocate for his constituents. Yes, prompted by Arnold, he made a bad call on an important issue, but Newsom is a progressive who has and will continue to make bad calls on most every issue. Let’s not punish ourselves in an attempt to punish him.
Reporting Voter Fraud
The Republican Party has set up a National Hotline, which will be staffed with Attorneys to handle polling issues as well as possible voter fraud or intimidation.

Indeed. And not just in California. 3rd Party's just split the conservative, right of center vote. There are a few exceptions such as Tancredo in Colorado, but for the most part voting 3rd party is at best a wasted vote, at worst actually helps leftist get elected.
And we've REALLY got to get the word out to avoid these 3rd party Tea Party candidates. These are, in almost all cases, just Democrat plants being actively supported by liberals. They are not even hiding it anymore. And what few legitimate 3rd party Tea Party candidates are actually out there are mostly just cranks with little support from the real Tea Party.
Another good and useful post. I am still going through all the choices.
The fact that Newsom is even in contention is a sad commentary - a man who simulates oral sex on a microphone during a press interview being elected to Lt. Governor of our largest state? Is California that insane?
what about the State Board of Equalization 4th district. Anyone give help on this one?
We are marking our ballot this morning.
