The question around Washington today is not whether Nov. 2 will be a difficult day for the Democrats who control Congress, but rather how bad it will be.
Increasingly, it looks like the answer depends on which chamber of Congress you're following.
The nonpartisan Cook Political Report now estimates that more than 90 Democratic House seats are potentially in play; on the Republican side of the aisle, it estimates that only nine appear in jeopardy. As a result, most leading forecasters say it is more likely that Republicans will win the 39 House seats they need to take control.
On the Senate side, however, the battle has narrowed to a handful of true nail-biters in Nevada, Pennsylvania, Illinois and Colorado - all of which are likely to stay close to the end.
It would take a sweep of nearly all of them, improbable but not impossible, for the Republicans to pick up the 10 seats they need to gain control of the chamber. At this point, it's possible that Democrats will end up losing only three or four seats, and they will count that as a good night.
If these trends hold - if the Republicans do gain the House without also taking control of the Senate - that would represent a historic anomaly: Not since the election of 1930 has the House changed hands without the Senate following suit.

The Colombians took back their country (with help from the USA thank you) and so can the people of the USA
The close ones will be affected by the fraud margin. Tea Party turnout may beat it though. I doubt they can manufacture more than 2 or 3 % fraud.
Don’t forget the governorships. We’re picking a bunch up and people do tend to vote in a straight line.
One point that is helping us is that the evil word “MARXIST” is now being tossed about more freely.
Savage was one of the early talkers to call Obama a Marxist, and now everyone seems to be using it freely.
Granted, most of the young red diaper doper babies are not old enough to know what life was like in Communist east Europe, and many probably think it is cool to be a Communist.
The older voters, however, know better.
Stanley Kurtz new book + recent RED relevations from BO’s fellow college chums have not helped the RatFesters.
I see dead rats everywhere. Next step will be to finish off the RINOs!
“Next step will be to finish off the RINOs!”
Yes, the tea party has been great at running the RINOS into the tall grass.
The next step must be to flush them out and off to pasture,
far away from the halls of congress.
McStain would be number one on my list.
The PA polls close at 7PM eastern, I’m pretty sure... I want to see Sestak and Kanjorski declared losers at 7:05 PM and then the wave will be on its way. I love the thought of voters in California seeing those kind of results coming in while they’re still on their commutes (if they’re lucky enough to be working) home... maybe there will be some second-thoughts about voting for Jerry Brown and Barbara Boxer and Patty Murray, et. al.
I would agree there is a higher probability that the GOP takes the House than the Senate. But shouldn’t it be +6 (instead of +3 or +4) or so if R’s would take the Senate if all the close seats went R?
Real Clear politics has IN has likely GOP, WI has leans GOP,
and then 8 seats as tossups: CA, CO, IL, KY, NV, PA, WA, WV.
They have CT has leans Dem, and DE as likely Dem.
I suppose there could be only modest gains....don’t party like it’s 1773 just yet...
I love that photo. I like how he willingly exposes his neck.
There’s another page on RCP...if forced to call each race, then they have GOP at +8. CA, WA, WV tipping Dem; CO, IL, KY, NV, PA tipping R. Also ND is rated safe GOP.
While I agree with you, just note that it is possible -- a lot of the "safe" Democrat seats are in districts that vote 80-90% 'rat. Just a few of those districts can offset a lot of 55-45 GOP districts.
Lol, neat car image. On the verge of toppling over just lke the Dems. The Thunderball’s coming.
