Being snide is one thing. Being vicious is another. So, STOP IT.

I would say admitting to keeping a perfectly qualified person from a job for esoteric reasons is about as vicious as it gets. If somebody has prejudices like that and is as small minded as that, please they may do better to keep those things to his or herself. These are brutal times FRiend.

That happened to me once, too. Kids in the hall asked me 1) how I could stand the prof and 2) how I kept up with the work. So I told them.

The best thing about that class was this one memory I have of sitting in the back by a window (I always did that) and seeing this woman walking down the sidewalk with a green foam Statue of Liberty crown on her head. There she was, like it was no big deal. ‘Herself’ (the name I gave the prof) never saw that. I must not have busted out laughing because I remember ‘Herself’s’ voice droning on.

I didn’t see it, but judging from the first page or so of comments, it sounds like a real barn burner.

You’ll encounter it someday. I’ve told candidates that, and I’ve been told that myself when interviewing. You have a problem with the truth, take it up with your pastor.

I wouldn't work for a jerk like you. I can smell an a mile away. Plus I would lie to a person like you about my background, no college .etc, to work at your stinky little job, if I was that desperate.

Go right ahead and keep banging your head on that brick wall, central_va. You’re really showing everybody who’s who.

“These are brutal times FRiend.”

Yes. They are. I have noticed that people on FR are getting in a wad pretty quickly these days. And that’s too bad.

I’m not saying people don’t throw stuff around pall mall here and go off on tangents—which I’ve been known to do myself—and that sometimes we get pretty close to the ledge here. I just don’t want someone to take what’s said and do themselves in. That’s all.

And yes, people’s hiring practices and employment decisions are really awful sometimes. If you’re over 40, you have some tales to tell, many of them not pretty. I know I do.

My 2 cents.

I only hire professionals, so these taco stand operators who hire illegals all the time give me the creeps. Having said that; if a former f-500 CEO came into my taco stand and needed a job, I WOULD hire him, if only for a day. Imagine what I COULD ACTUALLY LEARN from him?

What are you talking about?

You, and your behavior. You're lashing out at someone who told the truth and because you don't like it, you keep bashing and bashing.

You're banging your head on a brick wall. I didn't like it when I was told I was grossly overqualified, but screaming and making threats wouldn't have changed a thing, even if I had been stupid enough to do such a thing.

That's what I'm talking about.

These are actual answers on a McDonald’s application submitted by a 17 year old kid someplace in Florida. They actually hired him too. I think this kid’s gonna go far...

NAME: Greg Bulmash.

SEX: Not yet. Still waiting for the right person.

DESIRED POSITION: Company’s President or Vice President. But seriously, whatever’s available. If I was in a position to be picky, I wouldn’t be applying here in the first place.

DESIRED SALARY: $185,000 a year plus stock options and a Michael Ovitz style severance package. If that’s not possible, make an offer and we can haggle.

EDUCATION: Yes.

LAST POSITION HELD: Target for middle management hostility.

SALARY: Less than I’m worth.

MOST NOTABLE ACHIEVEMENT: My incredible collection of stolen pens and post-it notes.

REASON FOR LEAVING: It sucked.

HOURS AVAILABLE TO WORK: Any.

PREFERRED HOURS: 1:30-3:30 p.m., Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday.

DO YOU HAVE ANY SPECIAL SKILLS?: Yes, but they’re better suited to a more intimate environment.

MAY WE CONTACT YOUR CURRENT EMPLOYER?: If I had one, would I be here?

DO YOU HAVE ANY PHYSICAL CONDITIONS THAT WOULD PROHIBIT YOU FROM LIFTING UP TO 50 LBS?: Of what?

DO YOU HAVE A CAR?: I think the more appropriate question here would be “Do you have a car that runs?”

HAVE YOU RECEIVED ANY SPECIAL AWARDS OR RECOGNITION?: I may already be a winner of the Publishers Clearing house Sweepstakes.

DO YOU SMOKE?: On the job no, on my breaks yes.

WHAT WOULD YOU LIKE TO BE DOING IN FIVE YEARS?: Living in the Bahamas with a fabulously wealthy dumb sexy blonde super model who thinks I’m the greatest thing since sliced bread. Actually, I’d like to be doing that now.

DO YOU CERTIFY THAT THE ABOVE IS TRUE AND COMPLETE TO THE BEST OF YOUR KNOWLEDGE?: Yes. Absolutely.

SIGN HERE: Aries.

What’d You Think?

I didn't like it when I was told I was grossly overqualified.

Work is a contract, pay for labor. There is no SUCH THING as OVERQUALIFIED. That is a liberal concept.

Now somebody can be under qualified.

...”If you are unemployed with a degree and are looking for anything, I think you are going to have to ‘dumb down’ your resume.”...

I have a family member who is in that very situation. When I suggested that he dumb down his resume, his wife said that if he dumbs it down any more, they will wonder how he found his way to the interview....

Two years without a real job, one temp position for 3 months, hundreds of resumes sent. This man has a degree from Purdue University and was a regional sales manager for a company selling to the automotive industry.

Sadly, this catastrophe is hitting all levels of employment.

I'm a hiring manager at my company and what amazes me is the sheer amount of resumes pouring in from people who hold bachelor and master degrees and used to work in six figure jobs. They are applying for jobs in my company that pay maybe 40-50k a year.

Oh really? What industry? I'm unemployed, in New England and would love to make 40k-50k a year and I won't leave.

People are dreaming if they think the economy is going to pick up. Maybe 2017 - maybe never.

“And yet, those over-educated morons all voted for The One, and even now, they still defend him.”

The left is the left, and never the twain shall meet :)

The are stupid, ignorant sheeple...and what is really mind boggling is that the likes of Warren Buffett and others who are worth billions because of free enterprise are walking hand-in-hand with the left.

We are not even considering them because we know that as soon as the economy turns around, they will leave us to take another job

You might want to reconsider - the economy isn't going to turn around. Demographics, currency debasing, and built-in New Deal policies will see to that. That guy might be SO damned grateful he'll work twice as hard.
