Early voting offers encouragement to Democrats
The Washington Post ^ | Saturday, October 23, 2010 | Karen Tumulty

In an election year when good news has been scarce for Democrats, anxious party strategists are heartened by at least one development: In states that have started voting, early indications are that Democratic turnout could be stronger than expected.

Despite the much-discussed "enthusiasm gap," early balloting suggests that the voter turnout engine that Barack Obama revved up in 2008 has not sputtered out entirely, according to the Atlas Project, a Democratic consulting firm that analyzed voter data.

The firm told its clients Friday that early ballots in the 17 states where voting has been sufficient to draw historical comparisons show a partisan balance that looks very much like that in 2006, the year Democrats took back the House and the Senate.

"In many states, it even appears that the electorate so far is a little more Democratic than in 2006, although it is still early in the early voting process," reported the firm, which was founded by Mary Beth Cahill, manager of John F. Kerry's 2004 presidential campaign, and Steve Rosenthal, a former political director for the AFL-CIO. "Further, in some states like Georgia, Florida, Michigan and North Carolina, African Americans in particular seem to be making up a greater proportion of early voters at this point than in 2006."

I live not too far from you and will be voting bright and early Monday morning. I'll be voting straight Republican too though I always vote in each individual race. I'm more concerned this time about who we are sending to Austin than Washington; I live in the 19th Congressional District and like my Representative as well as yours.

I'd love to see my State Representative change from D to R; the Republican challenger seems like a pretty solid conservative guy and the "conservative Democrat" currently in the office has never impressed me.

Early voting favors democrats because it gives their voters a lot of time to cast multiple ballots at different polling places, districts, even states.

My friend, I do not worry about Texas at all!!! But, let me outline a few facts of life you will not hear from the lying Mainstream Media. A few questions should make it amply clear what is afoot this election cycle. Do you think all Jewish Americans that identify themselves as Democrats are going to vote for the Obama team? How about all Blacks? How about all Hispanics? How about all union members? How about many public service employees? How about all teachers in the teacher unions or non-union teachers? And....that is just a few!!! The Jewish vote will be down for Democrats from between 10-20%. Obama hates Israel and all Jews!!! Blacks will be down between 10-15% for Democrats, their situation via jobs and opportunities have all but disappeared, plus they have the highest mortgage failure of any group in the country, thanks to Chris Dodd & Barney Frank both Democrats and Obama lovers. Hispanics could drop by 30% just by virtue that they now view rightly view Obama as the flim/flam man of all time. Union members rank & file have been laid of by the thousands and behind the curtain of vote protection, many will vote against Obama by voting against Democrats. The same for public service employees and teachers. Add disgruntled gays who will vote against Democrats or simply just stay home on election day and....you clearly see how the political reality cake is baking. So....please do not be misled by the “cute” mainstream media as to early voting patterns and who is voting early. Just because a registered Democrat votes does not tell you who they are voting for or against. Republicans are easier to judge. Just about everyone with half a brain knows who we Pubbies and Conservatives are voting for. I predict a small but devastating erosion of the “Democrat vote” by Democrats themselves who are fed up or can’t stomach Obama. At the end of the day, as my British friends say, long after this election is in the record books, you will see that grayfox who is an expert on interpting demographics was right on the money. We are about to witness a major decline of the Democrat Party and a severe political setback to Barack Hussein Obama. One should never live in LaLa land. You will soon see the folly of such belief and thought. It’s the real world that counts!!! And....Obama & his anti-American ilk do not live in it!!!

Don't forget they blocked hundreds of thousands of military votes again this election. (according to a previous story during the week)

At some point don't you jail those responsible?

I’m fairly sure it’s like that everywhere. Someone Freeped me and said they are tracking it from the original registrations. That makes sense however, in MO (since that’s all I can go by) our voter logs do not contain party designation. I worked the polls for a couple of years and the voter’s name, address, district number is the only information shown.

“America Unites - Demands Military Ballots Are Counted November 2nd.

Despite a virtual media blackout, word is leaking out that up to hundreds of thousands of military ballots may not be counted in the 2010 Election, especially from troops on battlefields overseas. Tea Party Patriots groups across the Nation are taking action to reverse this National Disgrace. The organization’s 2800 tea parties around the country are demanding military ballots are counted on November 2.

“Disenfranchisement of our troops is not acceptable,” commented TPP National Coordinator Dawn Wildman. “We are building an unstoppable coalition of groups to ensure their ballots are expressed to America before Election Day.”

It is estimated that the military ballots could swing numerous elections. Most of the states that have failed to live up to legal requirements are states with close races. Among them are Illinois, New York, Alaska, Colorado, Wisconsin, Hawaii, Delaware, Massachusetts, and New Mexico. At issue is a 2009 law (The MOVE Act) that requires county election officials to deliver overseas ballots no later than 45 days before Election Day so voters can fill them out and mail them back in time to be counted.

While the number of ballots affected are unknown, about 992,000 overseas and military ballots were requested in the 2006 midterm election but only a third of those were counted, According to the U.S. Election Assistance Commission. Seventy percent of those not cast were returned to local election offices as undeliverable.

Many tea partiers believe that The Race to Get Troops’ Ballots Back Home By November 2 could be the single most honorable contribution they make to the MidTerm Election.

The Battle Plan follows. Please call your Senators and Congress people and ask them why we are allowing this to happen to our fighting men and women serving.

Call your media outlets and ask why they aren’t covering this story!
