A brother and sister have been arrested on charges that they ran down an employee of a South Side Walmart last night when he tried to stop them from shoplifting computer equipment, police said.

Nikolai and Elizabeth Young of 288 Chambersburg Rd. were charged with aggravated robbery after their 9 a.m. arrest at their South Side home, police said. Both are jailed pending an appearance in Franklin County Municipal Court on Friday.

Dustin Carrel, a 24-year-old Walmart customer-service representative, remained in serious condition this afternoon at Grant Medical Center.

Carrel was injured at 11:42 p.m. last night while trying to stop a woman who had stolen a hard drive from the Walmart at 3579 S. High St.

Police said the woman went to the store's electronics section, asked about hard drives, picked up a boxed hard drive, and ran out of the store.

Carrel followed her and tried to stop her as she got in the passenger's side of a waiting Mercedes driven by a man. The car sped off, hitting and dragging Carrel before running him over.

Columbus police Lt. Michael Woods of the burglary squad said detectives identified Nikolai, 25, and Elizabeth, 28, as suspects through the description of the Mercedes and a partial license-plate number obtained by witnesses.

He will definitely be fired. And he will not have his medical bills paid under Worker’s Compensation since he violated Wal Mart policy.
