French riot police and students fired tear gas and petrol bombs at each other while truckers blocked roads and more than a thousand petrol stations ran dry, as nationwide protests intensified.
Despite claims that it had petrol provision under control, the government said it had activated an emergency crisis cell charged with maintaining fuel supplies.
The opposition Socialists criticised François Fillon, the prime minister, for failing to speak to the unions over proposed pension reforms, which would raise minimum and full retirement ages to 62 and 67.
We have a prime minister who thinks he is Churchill but who is only Thatcher, said Harlem Désir, the Socialists deputy leader. He is trying to make us think he is carrying out great reforms to save our economy but in fact he is smashing our social model.
The Socialists, like the unions, want to allow the French to continue to retire at 60 despite rising life expectancy, saying the shortfall could be filled by increasing tax on capital and the number of years a person paid into the system.

Which is exactly what got them in the trouble they are in the first place.
“Insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result”.
.We have a prime minister who thinks he is Churchill but who is only Thatcher,...
Is this supposed to be an insult?
Amazing. These people go on strike across the country and wonder why they don’t have any gas. Did they ever go to school?
the government is just as bad
free money doesn’t exist anymore.
Um, he is doing both; that's the point!
Take notes.
It’s coming soon, to a city near you!..............
I am mixed on this one. I don’t want the government forcing me to work longer for them and the benefits they get either.
This will take some thought.
Oh, stewardess, I understand leftist jive. The moonbat says the Socialist PM thinks he is Mao, but is only like Stalin.
I wonder if these are general youth riots, or if they have the ethnic makeup of other riots in France in recent years. A few burned out vehicles are mentioned, which might provide a hint, but is not conclusive.
It’s the French how big a riot could it be? But then I forget the Muslim ‘YUTES’ are most likely heavily involved.
That’s the kinda problem you run into when you run your automobiles on petrol instead of gasoline!
Obscure “Airplane!” reference bump!
Absolutely. The French in the 1980's hated Thatcher every bit as much as they hated Reagan. The French government of president Francois Mitterrand (term, 1981-1995) worked like this:
The beginning of his first term was marked by a left-wing economic policy based on the 110 Propositions for France and the 1972 Common Programme between the Socialist Party, the Communist Party and the Left Radical Party.
Ya know, the proper response to petrol bombs should be machine gun fire.
The police should kill them until they change their minds.
The better question would be "Have they ever fed themselves?"
Best... scene... ever...
LOL!
