Los Angeles County Sheriff Lee Baca said Friday his deputies marijuana enforcement would not change even if Proposition 19, which would legalize the drug in California, passes Nov. 2.
Proposition 19 is not going to pass, even if it passes, Baca said in a news conference Friday at sheriff's headquarters in Monterey Park.
Baca, whose department polices three-fourths of the county, was bolstered Friday by an announcement from the Obama administration that federal officials would continue to vigorously enforce marijuana laws in California, even if state voters pass the measure.
Baca said the proposition was superseded by federal law and if passed, would be found unconstitutional.

If you would read and think about the Constitution, you'd realize how silly that is. The 16th Amendment has delegated such authority to fedgov. It would take another amendment to repeal it. I don't like a national income tax either, but it does pass constitutional muster.
That's what you guys are trying to do with reefer laws and medical marijuana.
That argument only works if you believe that fedgov is delegated such authority over intrastate commerce by the Commerce Clause. Do you believe that such authority is in keeping with original understanding... yes or no?
Mojave comment 64: “The City of Los Angeles is Chief Bratton and LAPD.”
Mojave comment 73: “Then your inability to distinguish between the city and the county is strange, to say the least.”
Uh, Mojave — the current LAPD chief is Charlie Beck, and it “is strange to say the least” that you blew that.
C_O has lived in the Santa Cruz area for about 20 years, and does amazingly well despite that terrible handicap. What’s your excuse?
Never mind, I hope you get my point. Sometimes when we cast stones we don’t realize we ourselves may live in glass houses.
No I don’t. Do you think that by legalizing/opening medical marijuana shops in Michigan, that you’ve fixed the problem of an over-intrusive federal government?
And how does that make Los Angeles County Sheriff Baca responsible for the policies of the City of Los Angeles LAPD policies towards illegal aliens under Bratton and Beck, or of the Sanctuary City status that was in place under both Bratton and Beck?
ROTFLMAO.
That’s a common side effect.
Glad you admit it. You had me worried for a moment.
Could you try that in English?
Without getting to detailed, new regulations would have to be created.
Currently firearm parts are not regulated. Only the frames are tracked.
For example the only part of an AR-15 that you would currently have to get a background check to buy from a dealer is the lower receiver. All the rest is just parts.
It doesn't 'fix' the problem, but it does frustrate the federal government in carrying out what we both agree is an unconstitutional policy. Such efforts to bolster the Tenth Amendment and jab an overly intrusive fedgov should be supported.
There are cases throughout the rural West where County Sheriffs have ejected enforcing agents of the Federal Government, usually representing BLM, USFS, or Fish and Wildlife.
This is why Baca's choice to enforce Federal law over the State that charters the County in the first place is so interesting. It sets a very odd precedent.
As to you Mojave, your impenetrable centric has proven itself beneath contention:
Which has exactly nothing to do with city policy, as you bizarrely claimed. The people elect the Sheriff for the county.
This is why Baca's choice to enforce Federal law over the State that charters the County in the first place is so interesting.
That's good and nebulous. How exactly is the Sheriff enforcing Federal law over the State?
State law does not provide for prosecuting illegal aliens based on their status, but neither does it prevent the Sheriff from referring them to ICE. By your murky "logic", the Sheriff wouldn't even be able to notify the DEA of drug offenses or the Secret Service of counterfeiting operations.
Joe Baca is my Congresscritter :-(
What’s most clear is how hopelessly infiltrated with moles, paid (venal) and due to blind-following (stupidity), this place has become.
When hacks refuse to concede even the most obvious error, it surely reveals their lack of candor better than anything anyone could say.
Never attribute to malice that which can be explained by stupidity, sic...
Like claiming that the Los Angles County Sheriff sets the policies of the city of Los Angeles Police Department? Or pretending that the Los Angles County Sheriff has not referred 11,000 illegal aliens for deportation to ICE? Or asserting that the Sheriff can't refer dopers to the DEA because the "common law dating back to the Magna Carta" someone mysteriously prevented it?
I suppose all three of those could be attributable to stupidity.
Hacks strain at gnats while swallowing camels.
Cheer up... Joe Baca isn't all that bad. He's a loyal friend to California gun owners.
“Baca said the proposition was superseded by federal law and...”
Mighty white of him... how’s he feel about FEDERAL LAW on ILLEGALS!
Look the other way...
Hypocrite.
