'Bandit' Obama billboard sparks storm in US city (Grand Junction, CO)

GRAND JUNCTION, Colorado (AFP) – A billboard depicting Barack Obama as an Islamist suicide bomber, a gay and a Mexican bandit has triggered a storm of criticism in a western US city weeks ahead of crucial polls.

The colourful poster of the US president -- under the ironic slogan "Vote DemocRAT" -- is attracting attention from media worldwide and from people clogging a local parking lot for a closer look.

That reminds me of David Niven's autobiography. Long before coming to America and becoming an actor he was a graduate of Sandhurst and as a newly commissioned British officer he was stationed in Cyprus (maybe Crete or Malta). As a joke he and a friend attended a costume ball wearing goat skins, and spent the party walking around dropping raisins behind them.

The comment he quoted from his senior officers always made me laugh out loud as much or more than the image of him and his friend pretending to be goats doing what goats always do: "Bad show! I say, bad show!"

Obama is not my president. I do not wish him well. I will laugh at his mistakes and cheer his failures. I want the GOP to block, hinder and slam him at every turn. I want his ego crushed. I want to see his every political ally abandon him, leaving him to slowly twist in the breeze. I want to see him curled up in a fetal position in the Oval Office, crying uncontrollably, and blithering like a paranoid madman. I want to see him driven from office as soon as possible a broken man with his administration and the socialist-democratic party in ruins. And then.....I want his every action while in office to be investigated and prosecuted.

Chuck Pabst, the local Republican Party chairman, told the local paper the Grand Junction Sentinel that the billboard is in bad taste.

Bad taste is the dozen or so strip club billboards that greet one on I-80 when entering Illinois from the east. This is a fun combination of "Frito Bandito" and "Let's Do It Again (Big E. Smalls)"

"The billboard’s tagline, “Vote DemocRAT–Join the game,” is littered with every conceivable meme that has been leveled at President Barack Obama as four iterations of the President–as Muslim/Terrorist, Nazi/Fascist and gangster, Communist/open borders supporter, and a supporter of gay rights–play cards, ostensibly “gamble” with the Statue of Liberty, a figure of blindfolded Justice, the Holy Bible, an American soldier, Uncle Sam, and a bald eagle.

As they play, grinning vultures bearing the labels “$oro$” and a blue U.N. helmet look on, while several rats lurk from below, variously labeled “trial lawyer,” “IRS,” “EPA,” and “FED.”

The billboard itself lacks the shoulder badges emblazoned with the Muslim crescent and star, the swastika, and the hammer-and-sickle that appear to either have been part of the original picture, or were added later.
