To the extent candidates reject this fundamental right by supporting an objective evil, such as legal abortion, euthanasia or embryonic stem cell research, Catholics should consider them less acceptable for public office I don't like the implication of a sliding grade here. The truth is that a candidate who rejects any pro-life plank is therefore pro-death and is wholly unacceptable for public office. We may end up choosing between two unacceptables -- we often do -- but that is not the same as pretending that one is less acceptable than the other.
