Pilate said to Jesus, “What is truth?” He had seen the politics and had been told that if he had one more dust-up with the Jews he would be removed from the “Friends of Caesar” Club - removal by mandatory suicide. He knew he had to condemn an innocent Man to death or die himself - because politics, not truth, is the way of the world.

I read somewhere that Pontius Pilate actually did commit suicide, in the end.

Interesting. I’d not read that. I know that the Orthodox Church has a St Procula Day; that was Pilate’s wife. Makes me wonder what must have been going through Pilate’s mind and soul after the events of Good Friday and Easter.

I don’t know how anybody could be in politics without getting cynical and hardened. Somehow, though, the rule of law has to apply even in politics.
