Trapped Chilean Miners Rescue Beginning. Live Coverage
(Excerpt) Read more at guardian.co.uk ...
I’ll never get tired of seeing that capsule come up. What a spectacular sight.
Now that it’s daylight, you can see alot more of the detail. I thing attaching the wheels on the outside was a great idea. I was wondering if they would do something like that.
So is the count now 29 still down there? 33 miners plus four rescuers minus the eight that are up?
I understand some of it, but not nearly enough to attempt to post...
Agreed. This will become a model to be studied. Condy Rice just said that the Chilean President sent out an international plea for the best of the best to assist in the rescue. I have to say that NASA delivered! They thought of everything.
Minister of Health saying Number 9 is probably worst health problem — needs extra oxygen and other special equipment...
Yes, 29, I think. My eyelids are so heavy, but I can’t bear to turn off the TV.
Number 9 coming up soon.
So. They did not look to China for what was needed to do the job.
Ain't nothin' wrong with that!
I'm 63, and...
Uh, never mind -- I wouldn't be down there.
Lots of USA technology and industry involved in this. We lead the world, and have since about 1776.
If we're stuck with six more years of Ds in two branches and one more significant SCOTUS appointment, though, they'll be looking to China (or worse)...
Polls look good now, but I'm still skeert...
I would like to see names of all the americans who had a hand in this rescue. Behind the scene or not
Wow. One of the miners had paramedic experience and was taking blood and urine samples from everyone to send topside for analysis. And in the beginning, they sent down Nicotine patches because the men were all smokers, but eventually they let them smoke cigarettes down there!
Downhole audio and video — lots of clapping and cheering as #9 heads out for the Free World. He’s on the way up.
***09:24 (London time) More great comments from the rescued miners’ spokesman Mario Sepulveda: “Ive been near God but Ive also been near the devil. They fought but God won.” ***
Instead of going to bed as I should have. I brewed up a nice pot of coffee with few small treats to snack on. It’s been an absolute pleasure to watch event.
—delete— ...without going into the politics of what I’m seeing in the faces, in the spirits of these people. I’m content to just say it makes me both happy and proud.
Yep. And don't forget that the very fact that we're watching it live via cable TV and the Internet is because of American ingenuity and entrepreneurial enterprise. We're the best thing that's happened to the world since the crucifixion and resurrection, and our current administration wants to throw all that away.
No argument there
This type of event is when the rubber meets the road.
When people pull together and put aside their differences to accomplish something bigger than any of them could do individually.
Takes strong character and conviction. Creativity. A refusal to fail attitude. And it separates the men from the boys.
Whiners and welfare queens and Me Me Me folks need not apply!!!
Good Morning all:
Bolivia has been very vocal and sometimes agressive toward Chile since the losing The war of the Pacific to Chile and a big chunk of land to Chile, a war they started. Evo Moralas, the Communist President of Bolivia uses the land claim issue to whip up hatred of Chile when ever he can. Chile’s effort to rescue a Bolivian miner and giving him a Bolivian flag to fly on Chilean soil will mean a lot to the people in Bolivia as will the greeting he was given by Pres. Pineda.
Does Senora mean mother?
I betcha the pres of Chile feels the same way. He won't have a problem signing the checks.
