It's an ornate office in Indiana's beautifully maintained mid-19th-century Capitol, but the 49th governor of Indiana, Mitch Daniels, is not dressed to match the setting. He's just returned from spending the night in Princeton, Ind., staying at a constituent's house -- as he often does around the state -- and he's dressed in a work shirt and jeans.
I've known Mitch Daniels since he was a staffer for Sen. Richard Lugar in the 1980s, and for years he struck me as one of the least likely candidates for public office. He's got strong, mostly conservative convictions; he doesn't suffer fools (and elected politicians) gladly; he doesn't care if others don't like him. All those characteristics were on display when he ran the Office of Management and Budget for George W. Bush between January 2001 and June 2003.

Moreover, in 2012 voters will probably be more pragmatic than ever. Already two years and they are just tired of a so-called charismatic candidate - empty suit - hope & change - shriking - not-so-president. No matter the GOP candidate, bammy is toast.
Don't forget. History shows that apathy sets in, other distractions arise and results of politicians policies become apparent with the consequent disillusionment. What was the eventual outcome after all the baby boomer "youth" enthusiam for John Kennedy, Robert Kennedy, Gene McCarthy and George McGovern: Nixon. Not a charismatic one. And yet, he won (with Reagan) 49 states in 1972.

So far I like both Daniels and/or Barbour as our GOP nominee 2012.
Mike Pence would have been a really good choice too. But he needs time. He is not even Senator.
We need someone who has been raked through the coals. Someone who has been through the fire and has battled corruption and cronyism in both parties. Daniels is not that person.
Well, who is the best, then ?
He kind of looks like Calvin Coolidge.
I think I like Haley Barbour better but the Cato Institute just recent gave him a C on fiscal poilcy.
Love Palin but have serious doubts about her electability (I know, I know...they said that about Reagan too but Sarah has been savaged by the media like no other. Her cred with independents may be shot.)

Of course, he is not telegenic. Even Barone said so. But, again, enough of telegenic elections. We need qualified candidates.
OK by me. Mitch is a good guy and has done wonders with the Indiana budget.
Christie might allow Jersey to be carried as a Veep candidate. Daniels might allow Indiana (almost a must win) to be carried as a veep candidate. Both are good on the fiscal issues as well it seems; not Bush clones.

Governor Palin was selected to be VP but she's not good enough to be President in her own right?
She has been a Mayor, a state regulator, and a Governor, and would have completed her term had the haters left her alone.
She is also a small business owner.
So please explain to me what you mean by "qualified." Because she has been going toe-to-toe attacking the Obama administration.
You want another bland, pleasant "moderate" Republican that the media will initially declare is "formidable" but when the nomination happen the same media will gut like a catfish.

As of right now, only Governor Palin is the only potential GOP candidate who is willing to fight for conservatism and can take on the leftists.
