WASHINGTON Solar power is coming to President Barack Obama's house.
The most famous residence in America, which has already boosted its green credentials by planting a garden, plans to install solar panels atop the White House's living quarters. The solar panels are to be installed by spring 2011, and will heat water for the first family and supply some electricity.
Energy Secretary Steven Chu announced the plans Tuesday in Washington at a conference of local, state, academic and nonprofit leaders aimed at identifying how the federal government can improve its environmental performance.

That reminds me. "Plugs" Biden's home state has numerous SP mfgs...
Why not a small nuclear power plant? That would make more strategic sense.
Notice how they do this at taxpayers expense. If he does this at his own chicago mansion, I’ll believe him.
YEAH hip hip hooray!!!!!!!!!
We are buying Obama a PR opportunity - and AP and all the media lackeys lap it up! Complete with voodoo math!!!!!
Bush had solar on WH 8 years ago. Media = chirp chirp. Obummer does it - Chu holds a press conference.
Compare Bush’s real home with Obummers. If interested in green tech - Bush crushes all lefties (with exception of those who don’t shower).
And it wil lpay for itself in five years!!!! Brought to you by “we won’t raise taxes” and “you cna keep your old health care plan!”.
Daily joke.
What sun? Nothing but dark clouds over the WH since obama moved in
I don’t understand the widespread opposition to solar around here. If it can power your calculator, it can power your car. /
Hummm... I wonder if this can be defunded between Jan and the installation date?
$100,000 divided by 19700kw-hr = $5/kwhr. Divided over the average lifespan of solar panels (20-25years) is $0.20 -$0.25/kwhr. Assuming the 19700kwhr/year takes into account cloudy days, dirt/grime on the panels, degredation over time of the photocells themselves.
For comparison, including all my taxes and fees, I pay $0.16/kwhr total for over-the-wire electricity.
$100,000 investment
$2,300 annual savings (for 20 years, till the panels need replacement).
If they took the $100,000 and put it into the bank, it would earn $2,300 annually in interest and then some. Plus, at the end of 20 years (when the solar panels need replacing) you would still have the $100,000 in the bank.
Ah, the huckster selling this junk can’t perform basic math. That’s even worse.
ping
HUH??????????
$100,000/3300$/yr = 30.3yr
Epic Math Fail
The cost benefit analysis is even worse than the installation cost and energy savings indicates. Solar panels deteriorate over time, perhaps 1 percent per year. Invertors also need replacement. The cost benefit analysis should factor into the declining energy production and the cost to replace invertors about every 10 years.
In defense of this installation however is the cost of electricity. If the Democrats can artificially inflate electricity costs high enough (10 times), these panels are a great investment.
Really! How stupid is that!
Spend, spend, spend...that’s all these people know how to do!
It gets even better.. he uses a pie in the sky 5,000 foot, 60,000 KW California house in his example, when Zero’s just putting in a system that will generate 1/3 of that in a city that has way more cloudy days than LA.
You have to love token liberalism. As 1forall points out, this system never pays for itself compared to the alternative. It doesn’t take care of the electricity needs of the White House or even the entire living quarters..
Typical liberal epic fail. But the greenies will all be happy.
“Who used all the hot water?”
