Even if you get Paladino..what can he do...most of the property taxes are local..you need to start at the local level...in Florida were are cutting the budgets teachers and government workers are getting laid off..there are way to many and we cannot afford it..

I’m in Texas and my property taxes have gone from what amounted to 2 WEEKS of take home pay to 2 MONTHS of take home pay (same job with pay increases) in about 10 years. I grew up in this house and thought I would live the rest of my life here. For the past few years, I’ve struggled to make the tax payments. Now that we’re retired, I honestly don’t know how we’re going to manage it.

Pensions for union teachers from Public schools account for almost two-thirds of local property tax burden outside New York City, and their annual costs per student now range from about $15,000 to $25,000 per year, far above the national norm.

Fixed.

I'm lazy.

Why does anyone stay there?

Because New York is our home. The feckless leave; the veritable New Yorkers remain to resolve the problems that effect the state.

the property tax burden has grown at a rate double that of wage growth.
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

Property taxes = government schools!

Behind every property tax is a government school and piggy teachers whose salaries, pensions and gold plated benefits have grown faster than those in the non-government workforce.

The only way to drive down property taxes is to move toward vouchers, charters, and tax credits. Then work to completely privatize K-12 education.

By the way, what ever your government schools says it takes to educate a child DOUBLE that figure. Government schools have accounting practices that would make an Enron accountant blush.

Tell teachers that they have to teach classes with 30 or 40 students in each class. Then lay off the surplus teachers. Works fine in the Catholic schools.

the owner is taxed on the price of the house

I believe you mean the 'value' of the house in the current marketplace. Since that value shifts, based on the economy, a better solution must be found. One of the most egregious examples of this methodology occurred a few years ago in Lake George. What had been a sleepy village community surrounding a lake, swelled into pricey lake front properties as more and more downstaters discovered the natural beauty of the Adirondacks. It didn't take long before the town realized it could capitalize on their newfound attention. They commissioned a property reevaluation. Suddenly, family properties that had been passed down from one generation to the next, were now subject to new assessments. Tragically, some of these families were forced to sell their properties because they could not afford the increased valuation taxes imposed on them.

The online article does not provide a link to Paladino's comments on property taxes. While Cuomo supports a tax cap, Paladino proposes a tax reduction. Go Paladino!

I’m also in Texas and this article could have been written about almost any middle class or affluent area in our state. We may not have a state income tax but we make up for it with our property and sales taxes.

The only solution is an amendment that makes property taxes illegal and unconstitutional. I did mean the value but the value is set by the government so the homeowner is at the mercy of government stooges.

Double that amount! Government school bureaucrats are slicker than snot when it comes to creative accounting.

For instance, our state does not include retired school employees as a school expense. This item is hidden under the general fund of “retired state worker”! Then there are all the services used by the schools that are never accounted for. In our county the police roaming the halls are not a school expense. We have a new 70 million (Yes! $70 MILLION) dollar high school. It is considered a bond issue and a county improvement and is NOT found under the schools’ expenses.

Government schools.?....Work to get rid of them. How?

Answer:

1)Vouchers, tax credits, and charters to build the private infrastructure.

2) Outlaw teacher unions ( as well as **ALL** government unions). They already have civil service protections. That should be enough!

3) In Los Angeles, the teachers in one high school voted to become a Green Dot charter. We should encourage this.

4) Move all sports to the county departments of recreation. This will transfer the “rah rah” support for the schools to the counties. Then move to completely privatize sports. Many citizens support the government schools because the government is essentially running tax supported bush leagues for the major leagues.

5) As students move into private settings, gradually expect the parents to take on more and more responsibility for their child's education. Eventually move to a completely private system with charity paying for the poor. Amend the state constitutions if necessary.

6) As the process develops **DEMAND**MASSIVE** tax reductions!

When I drive by a government school I see a structure that resembles a prison and treats children (who have committed no crime) like prisoners. They are GODLESS, socialist-funded, compulsory, price-fixed monopoly cartels, and government owned and run. Also,... these corrupt institutions also trash every First Amendment right and freedom of conscience!

Simply by attending children learn to be comfortable with:

GODLESSNESS

Socialism

Government compulsion

Government ownership and management of their lives. ( Why should we be surprised that the government will soon have Death Panels to compel our deaths as well?

Government take overs of industry, fascist hyper-regulation, and creation of government price-fixed cartels!

Government abuse of citizen constitutional rights.

Government **RENT** that is what property tax really is. It is time we started calling it by its true, and most descriptive name!

Fail to pay your government rent and armed sheriffs will soon be at the door to evict you.
