It's looking like all out war against Fox News.
Just days after the president slammed the cable news network, declaring it "destructive" to America's long-term growth, the feds are suing Fox News for allegedly retaliating against a reporter who says she was discriminated against because of her age and gender.
It's the latest in increasingly hostile rhetoric against Fox News, not only from Obama but from Rahm Emanuel and the president's former communications director.
According to the lawsuit, filed by the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission on Thursday, Catherine Herridge, a national correspondent who covers homeland security complained about discriminatory practices in the network starting in 2006.
Herridge, now 46, claimed "female and black correspondents were given less desirable shifts" in the network and that oftentimes assignments (including an anchor job) were denied or "taken away from her" due to her sex and age.
In 2008, the network said it found no evidence of bias, and when her contract came up for renewal, it included language barring her from making more discrimination complaints, according to the lawsuit.
Herridge, who joined Fox News in 1996 as a London correspondent, refused to sign the contract.
The lawsuit says the language in the contract was retaliatory.

Martha MacCallum is 46. She is an Anchor.
WHY IS THE FED INVOLVED!?
The Fed is involved because current law pretty much gives them the right to stick their nose into any situation where discrimination on the basis of age, sex, race, religion, disability or national origin is alleged.
Fox (and many other news channels) is great for the eye candy. I have seen this woman report many times and she seems like a quality tele journo.
She might be pulling the female card though
Lose the crew cut, sweetie.
and she’s blonde. I think Catherine would have better grounds suing for discrimination against brunettes!~ ; )
The little boy must be a couple of years old now. He needed a new liver and she donated part of hers.
She had a lot of time off during that time and has had lots of assignments since then.
Guess she’s feeling threatened by Megen Kelley and Harris Faulkner, who are quite gorgeous.
This is really unfortunate and while Herridge's discrimination complaint that alleged, in her perception, only attractive, young, blond reporters get choice assignments at Fox News, she is in a business where appearance and 'personality' are serious considerations for promotion. She isn't a newspaper reporter but a person who is judged by her overall appeal to a wide audience and that includes more than simply telling some facts into a camera. I could do that and so could millions of others. No big deal.
Does anyone really think that Meghan Kelly (age 39) has risen fairly rapidly in the Fox News organization just because she has blond hair? Get real. Gretchen Carlson is 44 and has been quite successful at Fox News. Martha MacCallum is 46, the same age as Catherine Herridge, and is very popular with Fox News viewers. Juliet Huddy is 40 and still a rising star at Fox News. Jennifer Griffin, 41, is not a beauty pageant type but a solid reporter - and a staple at Fox News. I could keep listing female Fox News reporters/anchors but I believe the point has been made.
If Catherine Herridge feels discriminated against, she should have never agreed to work at Fox News without a contract in 2008. She should have left the network and then filed her complaint, which I think is baseless. Herridge obviously has little charisma, the indefinable essence of what makes anyone on TV popular. Some have it, some don't. Herridge had a nice slot as a reporter on what is quickly becoming the major news network in America and she chooses to throw it away with a frivolous complaint because she thinks she deserves more than she gets at Fox News.
Well, almost every employee anywhere thinks they deserve more than they get, be it in their position and/or their financial compensation. Fox has a right to assign reporters as they deem best for the network. Catherine Herridge didn't have to renew her contract if she felt she was being slighted. Her complaint to the EEOC is just feeding into the Obama administration's insane vendetta against the one TV network that actually questions Obama's policies and offers critical analysis of his administration.
Some Fox News commentators are sharply opposed to much of what Obama stands for (socialism writ large). Obama, pampered and praised his entire life, obviously can't deal with criticism and is attempting to lash out and, if he can get away with it, do harm to Fox News via federal agency rules and restrictions. He will fail and this attempt to damage a reputable news organization flies in the face of fairness and decency. It will hurt Obama and his political party a lot more than it will hurt Fox News. Too bad Catherine Herridge is on the wrong side.
Good thing we have the EEOC to protect the jobs of downtrodden millionaire DIVAS.
If she was such a hot commodity - while NOT working under contract - maybe a job at another network???? Perhaps?
She was so taken advantage of - while she took time off for child birth, took time off for surgery, etc. (Not that those aren’t cool - but how are you supposed to get an anchor job while doing that?)
Katherine Herridge’s problem isn’t that she’s a female of 46, it’s that she comes across as cold, unemotional or even emotionless robot.
It is the only news chanel I watch, but I do think they overdo the “Stepford” appearance of the anchor babes.
Perfect!
well....go for it!
You are BAD!
Yes, but Juliet Huddy has no business rising at Fox. She has neither talent nor brains.
Obama’s Enemy List.
AND SO IT BEGINS.
Richard Nixon redux.
Now I know why Herridge always looks pissed off.
She is Fox’s Christiane Amanpour—just nicer looking.
I heard that Rachel was voted “Ugliest Man on Campus” in college...
Joining the network at its inception in 1996
On June 6, 2006, she donated a portion of her liver to her infant son who was diagnosed with biliary atresia.
In 2007 a legal dispute regarding salary and benefits occurred between Catherine Herridge and the Fox News Channel. Fox News
******
I wonder if this happened while she was off with her son?
Obama’s strategy is an all-out media assault on everything conservative in an effort to brainwash people prior to the November election.
They have the audacity to think they can accomplish that in such a short period of time.
The believe it is do-able via character assassination and inuendo.
Will Americans have their heads turned? I wish I were more trusting, but how many conservatives even on these pages have been inclined to believe the first reports coming out rather than waiting for others to respond and research to turn up other information.
Her issues are being processed through the E.E.O.C. which I believe is a Federal office.
