John Thune's Tan is Starting to Resemble Toast
RedState ^

Posted on 10/01/2010 9:29:04 AM PDT by CJBernard

Let’s be honest for a minute. John Thune is a great United States Senator from South Dakota. But the only reason people talk about him for President is because he’s a good looking guy in a city full of lesser looking people, is tall, and has an attractive wife.

Other than that his greatest accomplishments are doing nothing. But he gives a great talk about biennial budgeting, the topic of choice for establishmentarians who want to show a little leg.

The other day, Thune went on record dinging Jim DeMint for helping conservatives get elected. Thune also sided with Lisa Murkowski on her keeping her Senate seat.

Now comes word that Thune is doing zilch, zip, nada to help tea party backed Senate candidates.

I don’t think Thune can be president.

Didn’t he defeat a long time dem when he won?

Why do we have to attack our own. It is the usual protocol to support incumbents. Remember the fury when Bush supported Specter.

Everyone wanted him to break with the past protocols.

Perhaps it’s time to change but that’s the way it always was in the past.

Thune served one purpose. He knocked of little Tommy Dashole. He has done nothing since so his time has come to be replaced in the senate. Lets just say - You do the people’s business or parish.

It's not Thune's job to attack voters in other states.

Thune's job is to represent the voters of South Dakota. He has no business propping up Charlie Crist or Murkowski.

Has the pattern of Thune’s donations not been verified?

I feel the same way about Governor Christie of NJ.

“The other day, Thune went on record dinging Jim DeMint for helping conservatives get elected.”

Thanks for the info. It doesn’t take the pubbies long, once elected to national office, to get addicted to the beltway water.

Apparently, these are the facts behind the charges: Thune defended Murky keeping her seniority on the Energy Committee and called DeMint out for expressing unhappiness over the GOP leadership to let Murkowski keep her ranking committee position.

Both of those are suppositions, rather than facts.

And some of Erikson's assertions are just plain lies:

Now comes word that Thune is doing zilch, zip, nada to help tea party backed Senate candidates.

A cursory look at Thune's PAC shows Ken Buck, Ron Johnson, Marco Rubio, and Jim DeMint as candidates the PAC is highlighting.

People don't have to think Thune is the best thing since sliced bread, but this kind of brainless zombie attack is sheer stupidity.

I guess you missed the statements NRO put out a few days ago. They targeted Senator’s offices for their statements on Murkowski keeping her position and how they voted. Thune gave one of the weakest weaselly answers on it.

I am quite familiar with it. Thune, like several other Senators, declined to comment on the caucus' decision. He's not a boat rocker -- but anyone who didn't know that already wasn't paying attention.

That doesn't justify getting out the long knives and butchering the guy, and smearing him with half-truths and unsourced attacks.

It's not Thune's job to attack voters in other states.

This is the second unsubstantiated attack you've put out. First you claimed Thune was attacking Americans in general. Now he's attacking voters?

Quotes or it didn't happen.

Perhaps you missed my \sarc\ tag. Whether suppositions or facts (I really can't discern much of a difference between the two in the realm of politics; this isn't physics after all) the accusations leveled by Erickson amount to nothing. Honestly, the virulent anti-RINO contingent on this board is beginning to resemble the Spanish Inquisition. I half expect Stalin-esque show trials to commence for cadre found insufficiently supportive of Sarah Palin or suspected of harboring a Neo-Christian under his bed. Thune strikes me as the kind of fellow who can bridge the Establishment and Insurgent Right and attract a lot of moderates, too. If the Insurgents shoot this horse before it even gets to the gate they're going to frighten most of the other contenders back in the barn. Please all of you folks auditioning for the role of the Tea Party's Torquemada, chill out.

Thune funded Charlie Crist & Murkowski... how do you think that money was spent?

Those funds were used against conservative voters who support Rubio and Miller. Sorry.

“Everyone has to come to their own decision about it, and that’s the decision I have come to,” Thune said. “John Bolton is not the best man for this job.”

___________________________________________________________ That's messed up. I've always like Thune but after reading the posts on this thread, I will NOT support him in a bid for President in 2012 or any year beyond. This was the final straw. John Bolton is awesome. John Thune would not make a decent scab on John Bolton's butt.
