Someone please refresh my memory...was the President or Congress that waqnted to retire the Space Shuttle? Either way, 9,000 layoffs by the end of 2011 is a lot.

Yes, but those are government jobs and if most have worked there since the beginning, I am sure their pensions and benefits will be quite nifty.IMHO

The current space shuttle is waaaaay beyond design-life. I believe FORTRAN is used.

they’re all being replaced by 3 historians who are researching a complete list of accomplishments by Muslims since the 7th Century.

It'll be the same kind of brain drain that happened after Apollo ended, such mo so that NASA has forgotten how to build Saturn V rockets.

I think it was bound to happen no matter who was elected. The Shuttle end date had been set while Bush was in office.

They aren’t needed now that the technology has been shifted to Muslim countries.

These workers can just commute to Orlando to go to work for the brand-spanking new, super-dee-dooper-dee, high speed passenger rail line that will run from Orlando Int'l airport to downtown Tampa.

With stops at Disneyworld and another to be determined in Polk County, which is about the midway point and will also be home to the new LegoLand Florida.

We must always remember that we beat the Russians to the moon because our German rocket scientists were better than their German rocket scientists.

We are losing two generations of space-flight experts. We probably will never recover that knowledge.

Their sacrifice is good for pRes_ _ent Obama's 57 states
which he serves. They feel MUCH better with more self-esteem
now that NASA has no plans and just layoffs
along with the rest of America's post-Obama destruction and pain.
