Gov. Chris Christie today called the suicide of Rutgers freshman Tyler Clementi an unspeakable tragedy, but said he would let Attorney General Paula Dow figure out how to prosecute the case against two fellow students accused of recording him in a sexual encounter.
Well, first of all, as the father of a 17-year-old, I cant imagine what those parents are feeling today I cant, said Christie.
You send your son to school to get an education with great hopes and aspirations.
Christie said his feeling on the case as a father overwhelms whatever feelings I have as governor and that he didnt know how Ravi and Wei could sleep at night knowing that they contributed to driving that young man to that alternative.
The two have been charged with multiple counts of invasion of privacy.

Clementi was enrolled in the school’s music program and was accomplished violinist.
Paul Mainardi released a statement confirming Clementi’s suicide. “Tyler was a fine young man, and a distinguished musician. The family is heartbroken beyond words. They respectfully request that they be given time to grieve
Prayers to his family. Please do not respond with negativity.
It seems there should be some sort of manslaughter charge brought as well. If you kill someone while driving drunk, you aren't just charged for the open container.

“Under New Jersey’s invasion-of-privacy statutes, it is a fourth degree crime to collect or view images depicting nudity or sexual contact involving another individual without that person’s consent, and it is a third degree crime to transmit or distribute such images. The penalty for conviction of a third degree offense can include a prison term of up to five years.”
Agree. Prayers for his family.
But we know that if you drive drunk, there is fairly decent possibility of getting into an accident.
While pulling this stunt was irresponsible, did the culprits even have the faintest idea this guy would have killed himself over it?
Their willing actions still resulted in a death. It may be involuntary manslaughter, but they are still in part responsible.
The school year had only just begun. It is a time when freshman still need parenting through supervision by the school, or things can get crazy fast.
May The Lord give peace to his family.
I can’t even imagine what they are going through.
Governor Christie:
That kind of stuff is just unacceptable, he said. And you dont know the feelings of the person on the receiving end of that There might be some people who can take that type of treatment and deal with it. There might be others, as this young man obviously was much more greatly affected by it.
Prayer to his family. This loss will be hard to overcome.
Are we sure this was the only contributing factor to his decision to end his life, or merely the straw that broke the camel’s back?
Perhaps if these two are convicted and punished appropriately it would send a message to others who would even think about doing these things. We live with gotcha journalism and voyeuristic media shows so prevalent that young people think nothing of imitating same.
It is a tragedy, for someone to be so unstable that they take their own life over being filmed in what was by all reports consentual sexual activity.
Those that committed this violation of his privacy should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. It was without a doubt a gross violation of this mans privacy as to what happened.
Yet he chose to take his own life over it, which is not the sign of a sane and rational person.
I grieve over the loss of this young man and pray for his family.
