The Stars and Bars are part of our history, and a symbol of American independence and fight.
Now, there are those who proudly fly the Mexican or Pan-African or some other colors, and no one says boo, even though these colors represent ideologies that are currently divisive, arrogant and racist to the core. But such displays are not offensive in what respect?
How many people have to DIE to put all this American Civil War back and forth to rest? It’s reminding me of debating the details of the 100 years war or storming the Bastille.
Slaves exist TODAY in many places, including the US. They’re killed, maimed, raped, etc. This argument is pure foolishness to me. The present Civil War in America is unfought with weapons. Thousands did die then, however. Lincoln foisted the Irish from the potato famine from the dock to impressment right there...which is slavery of a type.
Today, we are mostly wage slaves ourselves, which is slavery by any other name, just as the political war is being waged not just for our, but also for our children’s futures. Harboring a sense of independence and desire for freedom is, odd at this may be, a representation that is the obverse of what slavery meant back in the 1800s and before—now approaching 200 years. Not 25 or 50, but over 100. The old flag, Stars & Bars, like that of Don’t Tread on Me, is only slightly anachronistic, and peculiarly appropriate to folks who recognize the US federal move toward enslaving us all right now—of whatever color. All blood runs red.
