Another televangelist flames out
Daily Caller ^ | 9/29/10 | Ron Hart

After four lawsuits alleging he coerced young males into sexual relationships were filed, Georgia pastor Eddie Long took to the pulpit Sunday to carefully nuance his side of the story.

Long, the charismatic who leads his mega-church of 26,000 members, told reporters after Sunday’s service that he would challenge the allegations. Joined by members of his legal team, he carefully read from prepared remarks — always a sign of innocence.

By now we know how the redemptive process works for a televangelist accused of sexual relations with young males. First there is the allegation. Then there is the carefully worded, non-denial denial in which he says he will “fight the charges.” Then the preacher puts his jet and all the money he has yet to get into the bankruptcy-proof corporate shell he controls. Then his lawyers handle the settlements while the preacher gives lots of ensuing sermons on forgiveness.

See 37. Glass megachurches and stones, and all.

Maybe we should all just be faithful and, while being vigilant, perhaps stop obsessing over others. And that goes both ways.

“The church I go to pays the pastor $2,000/month, “

I hope he has a second job.

It is the good news that Jesus Christ, the son of God, died on the cross for our sins and arose on the third day. If we repent of our sinful condition which we inherited from Adam, and are baptized into a new life, we are saved. We call on the name of the Lord, and are saved, as He promises in the book of Revelation. (We were “in” Adam, in physical seed form, when he disobeyed the Lord, and thus we were guilty at that moment. Christ is the “new” Adam because he cleanses all who ask Him to.)

Well, that didn’t take long. It’s amazing how a thread about alleged homosexual misconduct by a “Reformed” pastor turns into yet another “let’s bash the Catholic Church” thread.

It's called deflection. The "religion" of many on the FR Religion Forum IS NOT Christianity, it's anti-Catholicism.

“This junk is no more the Gospel than Catholicism.”

That comment seems unneeded and inflammatory in the context of this thread.

Yeah. It’s fun to mix it up with the chumps every now and they get pretty stale sounding after awhile.

It's ironic, as this is on News forum, but "the song remains the same."

"Maybe we should all just be faithful and, while being vigilant, perhaps stop obsessing over others. And that goes both ways."

I keep hoping that someday that will happen on a FR thread where Christianity is the topic. :~/ I have no appreciation for Catholicism either, but bashing Catholics from the get go was uncalled for.

Would we all stop religious insults and just keep sight of the target? Please?
We are fighting for the same thing.

He is NOT a Reformed pastor!
He is a” Word of Faith” con-man and you know it.
If he was a Reformed pastor, he would actually be reading and preaching The Word of God, but he is just a huckster, a flim flam man who uses some out of context bible quotes to scam people.

I do not believe that the poster I asked know what the gospel is or that he would agree with you.

Actually, weekly I see far more pro-Catholic articles posted than the contrary.

From Emo Phillips: Once I saw this guy on a bridge about to jump. I said, “Don’t do it!”

He said, “Nobody loves me.”
I said, “God loves you. Do you believe in God?”
He said, “Yes.”
I said, “Are you a Christian or a Jew?”
He said, “A Christian.”
I said, “Me, too! Protestant or Catholic?”
He said, “Protestant.”
I said, “Me, too! What franchise?”
He said, “Baptist.”
I said, “Me, too! Northern Baptist or Southern Baptist?”
He said, “Northern Baptist.”
I said, “Me, too! Northern Conservative Baptist or Northern Liberal Baptist?”
He said, “Northern Conservative Baptist.”
I said, “Me, too! Northern Conservative Baptist Great Lakes Region, or Northern Conservative Baptist Eastern Region?” He said, “Northern Conservative Baptist Great Lakes Region.”
I said, “Me, too! Northern Conservative Baptist Great Lakes Region Council of 1879, or Northern Conservative Baptist Great Lakes Region Council of 1912?”
He said, “Northern Conservative Baptist Great Lakes Region Council of 1912.”
I said, “Die, heretic!” And I pushed him over.

In short - how ‘bout all you heretics STFU - we should all be worshiping Zarathustra (just like we usta).

When I read this stuff, it just makes me sad. The guy either went into the ministry as a con man from the git-go (in which case his soul is in grave peril), or once he was sincere and wanted to serve Jesus and be a pastor to the flock, and he lost his way and became drunk with all the success and adulation and whatnot.

While I praise God for His justice, lost sheep make me sad. May God pull him out of the pit and restore him, and console and strengthen his victims.

It is better to suffer injustice than to commit it. The crooked pastor deserves punishment, yet he evokes pity for his sins.
