After four lawsuits alleging he coerced young males into sexual relationships were filed, Georgia pastor Eddie Long took to the pulpit Sunday to carefully nuance his side of the story.
Long, the charismatic who leads his mega-church of 26,000 members, told reporters after Sundays service that he would challenge the allegations. Joined by members of his legal team, he carefully read from prepared remarks always a sign of innocence.
By now we know how the redemptive process works for a televangelist accused of sexual relations with young males. First there is the allegation. Then there is the carefully worded, non-denial denial in which he says he will fight the charges. Then the preacher puts his jet and all the money he has yet to get into the bankruptcy-proof corporate shell he controls. Then his lawyers handle the settlements while the preacher gives lots of ensuing sermons on forgiveness.

As far as religion goes, each soul is precious. Taking delight in a man’s fall is wrong and too many people are enjoying the spectacle.
I’m glad he got caught, but I also want to see the wheels of Justice complete their turn. Too many are tried in the media.
I don’t take any delight in someone’s sin. I think too many like to compare and contrast their own righteousness. While none of us may commit the same sin or evil in our lives, NONE of us are immune to falling.
That’s why we live in Faith with Hope and the Sacraments and a life of prayer. He gave us free will. We always have to keep that in mind.
“The money! The money? What will happen to all that money?”
I know some very good lawyers who would be happy to relieve him of it over many years of litigation.
As far as I know, this is entirely a civil matter (though this could change). Long is being sued, but there are no allegations of any laws being broken.
Let’s put it bluntly, shall we? No one wants their neighbor to become an axe murderer. But if he does, you want the bastard shot between the eyes, ASAP.
As for trial by media, the media aren’t jurists on a jury. It’s up to us to sift through and form our own opinions. And for that matter, who can trust judges and juries anyway. OJ sliced off his wife’s head and walked.
” Its up to us to sift through and form our own opinions”
Just a question:
Do we have all the facts?
In a case like this we are NEVER going to have all of the facts. Long’s lawyers are probably trying to work out some sort of financial settlement that would have iron-clad non-disclosure agreements, this is NEVER going to trial.
Probably not.
The IRS will most certainly be involved though.
When four guys that you know well say you’re a butt pirate, chances are slim you ain’t.
This is really nothing more than a sexual harassment lawsuit, he can pay out of his own pocket and the IRS won't care. As of right now, I'm not aware of any suggestion that Long has ever broken any laws.
Sorry, one of my pet peeves. OJ sliced off the head of his EX-wife! EX WIFE!!!!
Amazing how many misogynist idiots get that wrong, why killing your actual WIFE when you catch her with another man might actually be understandable, but what kind of idiot thinks his EX WIFE shouldn't have a relationship with another man? Vow of chastity perhaps? Get thee to a nunnery?
IIRC, he administers a charity that is or was under investigation.
He was very charitable to himself.
So you’re intent is to offend all Catholics by employing Catholophobia?
You’re obviously filled with the spirit. Of something.
It’s not deflection, it’s bait.
I am really shocked to see it allowed, and even encouraged. Srlsy.
Evidently, it is easier to notice the splinter in the other person's eye than the log in your own (I've heard these words somewhere). One might ask the question, "Why did a Catholic start this thread in the first place?" Hmmm.
Ping to 135
That’s correct, but he declared the money as income and paid taxes on it.
Hmmm. I don’t know, but then, I’m not a mindreader.
“I know we hate cops on this site, but now we hate catholics too?”
Among many.
Well, there are a great many Reformed churches where one will probably NEVER hear that verse read.
But, I suppose you are offering this as you excuse as to why, at post #2, you tried to deflect the the thread away from the Reformed minister and make it about Catholicism.
One might ask the question, "Why did a Catholic start this thread in the first place?"
Probably because it is a major news event. That being said, I knew Pissant on here for several years before I had any idea that he is a Catholic, I'm not aware that he participates in any of the religious threads on here, but if he does, it's not often.
