Another economic induced depression in more ways than one.
People must hold on. We sure need the dang senate, God willing.

The fine for over due books at UT must be really bad.

One wonders if an armed student took the perp down, and is being described as the “second shooter.” Concealed carry on campus (all of the UT campuses) is an extremely hot topic right now.

It looks like the 2 shooters might have been gunning for their boss that was going to lay them off.

Good thing concealed carry is outlawed there. Why, some CCW nutbag with a gun could have made this shooting much worse!
To: pabianice
I’m pretty sure you have your nutbags mixed up. CC folks don’t tend to die as easily as the unarmed, but thanks anyway.

Lott’s book is sitting on my nightstand, next in line right now.
(Per the speech) coincidence? If not, this is going to be really interesting! Thanks for the update!

Yea, but I suspect to see more of this as people get more weary battling the job market...it still isn’t good...even in the low end jobs...most are part-time and want you available 24/7.
I took a new job less than 6 months ago and am already looking for other work to a position that will stand the onslaught ahead....likely will mean a paycut...but am determined I will have income coming in no matter how bad things get.

There are probably suicides at UT every semester. So many kids, far from home, some of them with extreme pressure from parents to succeed, don’t do so well, not as smart as they think they are, think what’s the use, end it all.
Most of them don’t go shoot up the PCL.

Lott will undoubtedly be asked about this.
He has the statistics to back it up. Mass shootings decline in states that enact non-discretionary concealed handgun licensing laws.
The notable exception: the "unarmed victim" zones. In Texas, a college campuses is one of those zones.

As are reports that shooters are in possession of automatic weapons. You'd think in Texas they'd know the difference, but from what I'm told, Austin may not count.

We have to hold on. Next year will be rougher as more Obama Obamachavez kicks in, but if folks in third world countries can suffer through, we must. We’re Americans, and we are finally back. We have to fight. Remember, all that counts is God, food, clothing and shelter, and what food and where we shelter can’t matter anymore, for just two more years. God go with you and all patriots suffering.

My sister just called me from one of the dorms across the street from the library. She is safe, but not the thing you want to hear six weeks into her freshman year all the way out in Texas. Pray for all...

I'm here in the WRW building, on UT campus about 5 minute walk from the library. Lots of helicopters outside still, and occasional sirens.
Wide variance in how seriously people are taking this in my building. I have my door open, just walked across the street to ACES building since I was supposed to have a meeting. Apparently the computer sciences guys over there are a little more jumpy than us engineers, a bunch of them had locked themselves into their offices.
One thing you have to understand is that UT massively overestimates every threat. A single non-violent wallet theft will get emails sent out for weeks. Obviously a guy with an "AK-47" is a threat, but the chance of a second shooter is nearly zero. If the guy was shouting "Allahu Akbar" while shooting, then second shooter is a possibility, but a nut like this isn't going to have an accomplice. I say "nut" due to the reports that, first, he didn't hit anyone but himself, and second, he was waving to people he passed, without shooting them.
Will be interesting to see how long UT keeps looking for this second gunman. Knowing them, it will be days.
I'll have to be extra careful, since I have two guns... zing!
