It was the first time the 20-something Kim Jong-un had been mentioned by name in the North's media, and his appointment came just hours before the start of a rare ruling party meeting to elect its supreme leadership.
Kim Jong-il, 68, is believed to have suffered a stroke in 2008, but despite his declining health is not expected to go into retirement just yet, experts say. They say his son is too young and inexperienced to fully take the reins.
State news agency KCNA said Kim had issued a directive bestowing military rank on six people including Jong-un, the leader's sister Kyong-hui and Choe Ryong-hae, who is considered a loyal aide of Kim and his family.

New Chia Chub.
That cuteee can I borrow that ROFL
If he tries to seize power, he won’t last five minutes. He’ll be no match for the hardline military/intelligence elites that have managed to survive Kim’s reign.
All they have to do is put a Twinkie on a fishing line and lead him right out the door.
Imagine that. His son?
“Hell be no match for the hardline military/intelligence elites that have managed to survive Kims reign.”
My suspicion is they ARE his reign. Suppose the current Kim decided to institute freedom of speech and travel. Do you think he would live thru it? If not, who’s running things?
North Korea just got LOL.
Chia Pudge!!
Yep, imagine that.
Doesn’t look like there is a food shortage over there... at least for the elites.
How cute ROFL
No. I think that Kim still wields power and while he’s weakening, he still is too intimidating to try anything against. You underestimate dictators and what they are capable of. Eastern politics especially. he still likely has a highly loyal cadre to support him still.
“Doesnt look like there is a food shortage over there... at least for the elites.”
Don’t worry. He’ll import a Jack LaLanne waist belt machine from the US and all will be OK.
I like the pack slung over the shoulder look. American media will speculate that means he is western in outlook and that means a thawing of US/NK relations. (You need to have been alive during the cold war to get one.)
Are those real mother of plastic beads on his wrist??
“No. I think that Kim still wields power and while hes weakening, he still is too intimidating to try anything against. You underestimate dictators and what they are capable of. Eastern politics especially. he still likely has a highly loyal cadre to support him still.”
Perhaps. But the fact that each of the Kims has been able to “appoint” his successor suggests to me that his successor has actually been picked by the military guys who need another figurehead. Dead or almost dead dictators are notoriously unsuccessful at dictating lines of succession thru multiple generations. Even Stalin couldn’t do it. But a military politbureau could produce this result.
NO WAY! Must be a Michael Moore twin lost a birth.
All the N. Koreans I’ve seen are so skinny I wonder how
they could walk let alone march.
This is him.
Must be nice to be in the dictator's family.
