Max Seifert shot men who tried to kill him and helped solve one of the areas most horrific animal abuse cases.
But a federal judge says the case that cost the Kansas City, Kan., detective the most was his honest investigation of a road rage attack by a federal agent.
Seifert exposed the truth about a man who was beaten and charged with a crime after he wouldnt let an unmarked car pass him on the right.
For crossing the thin blue line, U.S. District Judge Julie Robinson wrote, Seifert was forced into retirement.
Seifert was shunned, subjected to gossip and defamation by his police colleagues and treated as a pariah, Robinson wrote. The way Seifert was treated was shameful.
Before Seifert started working on the beating case, she wrote, evaluations noted his diligence and dedication. Hed won commendations for shooting an armed man and freeing two hostages, and for shooting a man who tried to run him down with a pickup truck.
But none of that saved him from being forced out, the judge wrote.
Seifert never sued anybody.
His case might never have come to light if Robinson hadnt mentioned his ouster from the Police Department in her recent ruling that awarded Barron Bowling, the federal agents beating victim, more than $830,000 for assault, battery and excessive force.

Lemme tell you something.
WyCo and the KCK PoPo rotten to the effing core.
Dim politics -— ick, the more you stir it , the more it stinks.
You shoulda seen the lines outside the polling places lined up to vote for the commie weeks and weeks prior to November 2008.
And they don’t want anyone who ain’t from their county even over there. Coke houses, drugs, murders, disgusting.
It’s a Fraternity and that fraternity is necessary.
However when it is abused as it alledgedly is in this case it places the Fraternity against decency and common sense.
Not all police officers are deserving of belonging.
The DEA agent was lucky that the guy he chose to beat down wasn’t a more proficient fighter.I don’t care who you are, sooner or later you will run up against a better man.
The reporter had better watch out; he could be next.
“I dont care who you are, sooner or later you will run up against a better man.”
Or a hollow point.
Miller has left the force and is now the police chief in Topeka. He did not return phone calls.
And this is why most of the good cops are fading away. Shameful.
Surprising for the KC Star.
An actual news story.

Well, thanks for that, I guess.
What amazed me is that the Star actually fulfilled the role the press was designed for, and so seldom does...and the Star almost never does. It was the watchdog against corruption. In this case, police (local/Federal).
A proper press would do the same for government and big business. It so seldom does.
The KC Red Star is usually a cheerleader for corruption (democrats). The same tired old writers like Doogood, Hendricks, Penn, Sanchez, and old Fudd Gusewelle.
The proper perspective is usually opposite of what the Star publishes. I wonder how they manage to make the payments on their fancy new presses?
True. But the writing was so awful I had a heck of a time figuring out all the players and how it went down. Perhaps that is the point, tell the truth but make it so confusing people won't bother to read it.
