Forget a Recession, The Empire is Crumbling I look around me and I see an Empire in Decline. The US economy is clearly in a depression not a recession, not a recovery, but a DEPRESSION of a moral, social, and financial nature. More than 40 million Americans (12%) are on Food stamps. Nearly one in five of us are unemployed of underemployed. Folks go to Wal-Mart at 11PM waiting for their government checks to clear at midnight so they can buy baby formula, milk and other necessities. Three out of every five Americans are overweight. One in five are obese. Indeed, there are only two areas (one state, Colorado, and Washington DC) where obesity rates are under 20%. Nearly three in four of us dont get enough sleep. Almost one third of us report having trouble falling asleep EVERY night. And almost half of us report that day-time sleepiness interferes with normal activities including work. Half of marriages end in divorce. One out of ten married couples report sleeping alone. The average American watches 28 hours of TV a week (enough to qualify for a part-time job). Two thirds of us eat dinner while watching TV, preferring the fake, sensationalized lives of others to engaging with our own families. The TV and media are filled with foul, ungodly images of sex, violence, and hate. The most watched shows of the last decade all feature ordinary folks becoming superstars in lottery-esque competitions (American Idol, Survivor, Who Wants to be a Millionaire, etc) OR crime sagas detailing the most sordid and disgusting elements of society (CSI, Law and Order, etc) OR amoral social dramas in which notions of personal responsibility, fidelity, and common decency are unknown (Desperate Housewives, the Bachelorette, etc). Today, brain dead, vapid human beings who have contributed nothing to society are idolized and followed as though they invented the wheel. Weve actually got two industries devoted to presenting the illusion and reality of celebrity: Hollywood shows the photo-shopped, CGI-enhanced, scripted version, while the paparazzi and weekly glossies reveal the drug-addicted, affair-crazed, family breaking, soul-less emptiness. Sex or violence are plastered on virtually every flat surface available. Even the check-out lines at the grocery store feature endless images of barely clothed women along with headlines sensationalizing gruesome behavior, right out in the open for children to see. And if the kid can actually read the headlines
God only knows what ideas this stuff is putting into their heads. Financially, were all pretty much bust or going bust (except those on Wall Street). New home sales in July were a RECORD low. Not record as in for the year, but the lowest since 1963. The talking heads are high fiving because sales improved in August, but failed to note that they were still DOWN 19% from August 2009 levels. Americans two primary assets for retirement (stocks and their homes) have both been absolute disasters. Home prices are down 30%, stocks havent produced gains in over a decade. Every moron on TV talks about the Dow 10,000 like its a miracle. But when you adjust the Dow for inflation, (using the BLS ridiculous CPI measure) the Dow is SUB-500 in terms of purchasing power. Our money system is controlled by an elite banking oligarchy fronted by academics who have never run a business, invented anything, or had any interaction with commerce aside from vying for tenure. Our currency is now worth less than 1/20th of what it was a century ago. And we are ALL in debt up to our eyeballs on a personal, corporate, local, state, and federal level. Heck, even USA TODAY (not exactly the cutting edge in financial research) notes that in order to pay off our current liabilities, every US family would have to pay $31,000 a year for 75 YEARS!!! And were talking about an economic recovery? According to David Rosenberg of Gluskin Sheff:
The American Psychological Association reports that 73% of Americans cite money as a source of significant stress. Personal bankruptcies have fallen 8% month over month from July to August. However, August 2010 bankruptcies are up 6% from August 2009 so much for the recovery. And yet, despite all of this, assumedly intelligent people write op-ed articles and appear on TV claiming that things are swell in the US, that were actually OK and that the recession is over. Some of these people even have advanced degrees or have won international prizes for economics. Lets be honest. Forget recessions, forget even Depressions, the US is an empire in decline. You can literally see it crumbling right in front of you. Just start looking at how people live, eat, and act on a day to day basis. Look at how our Government runs itself, how it manages our affairs, how it spends our tax Dollars. Look at how our justice system works, who it protects and who it punishes. Its all out there, right in the open for you to see. You dont need an expert degree or some kind of advanced education. Its OBVIOUS to anyone who bothers looking around. The fact we dont admit it doesnt mean its not true. Best Regards, Graham Summers |

And it’s not going to get any better until we repeal the 1965 Immigration Act and then begin a deportation process for the hundreds of thousands of people who have come here over the last 40 years and have contributed nothing but suck off the gubmint teat!
” In times of such polarization and uncertainty, Ban said, let us remember, the world still looks to the United Nations for moral and political leadership.
I think he is pretty clear ..
11. Promote the U.N. as the only hope for mankind. If its charter is rewritten, demand that it be set up as a one-world government with its own independent armed forces. (Some Communist leaders believe the world can be taken over as easily by the U.N. as by Moscow. Sometimes these two centers compete with each other as they are now doing in the Congo.)

This needs to be repeated so we all understand: the US is an empire in decline.
Most of the points the author makes are indeed attributes of an empire in decline; the question is whether they are causes or effects.
Bruce Fein, who was a deputy attorney general in Ronald Reagan's Justice Department, believes they are effects: that the collapse of social institutions is a byproduct of America's being policeman of the world with all the costs that job entails.
Of course, there are still those who insist the U.S. is not an empire since we don't occupy foreign countries.
No, instead we send them billions in aid, with expectations that these nations will do our bidding.
Once the aid stops--either by voting it down in Congress or by the dollar turning to dross--how many countries will Americans count on when the chips are down? Three? Four?
Someone is having a very bad day.
True and sickening. I see it everyday.
LOL, that was sweet man, way to go !!
This article needs to be posted every day until Nov 3rd!

Ya, and look at un-employment benefits being almost two years now, that’s nutz and will create a whole other round of freeloaders who never thought they would be freeloaders, but found watching TV and eatin’ chips isn’t so bad, many will find themselves pulling the lever for more free government pellets when push comes to shove.
“More than 40 million Americans (12%) are on Food stamps.
Source please.”
Here’s one from the Boston Globe. Do a search, plenty of others for your viewing pleasure.
The truth is truth and few will admit our nation is on the way down.
Notice that the food stamp rules were eased prior to Obama.
Americas Last Great Asset
By Vedran Vuk
The rest of the world loves to berate Americans with endless insults: obese, ignorant, and uneducated. To some extent, theyre right. Our education system is pitiful, and I wont comment on the obesity statistics. We all know the story there. But theres one characteristic where Americans dominate the world intellectually: economic philosophy.
Many U.S. citizens are remarkably well spoken on matters of free enterprise versus big government. Im not claiming that everyone digs through Hayek, Friedman, and Mises, but certainly more of the population understands basic concepts than most nations. As one example, consider think tanks and free-market organizations. Where are biggest and most important ones located? In the United States, of course theres the Heritage Foundation, Cato Institute, Mises Institute, FEE, FFF, the Independent Institute I could go on and on. The United States is the intellectual light tower for the world on free-market issues.
And its more than just these institutions. Ive met amazing Americans from all walks of life who really understand markets. From salt-of-the-earth farmers to high-brow professors, our society has a better grasp of free enterprise in general.
For most countries, politics is simply a struggle between party XYZ versus party ABC. The voter chooses XYZ in favor of superior benefits to ABCs offer. Though the parties still identify themselves as Left or Right, they are in reality choices between the moderate Left and radical Left.
In much of the world, politics has been boiled down to its purest form simple redistribution.
While the average American might be lacking in geography, science, and mathematics, the rest of the world is full of economic ignoramuses. Our citizens arent spitting images of Adam Smith but are still far superior to the competition. Few foreigners even understand the success of the United States. Many believe that Americas wealth comes from either exploitation or sheer luck. Some may name capitalism, but few will define it accurately.
Instead, what youll hear throughout the world is usually a blame game to explain national economic failures. Oh, if we could only get rid of Chavez. If only the people ran the government. And, always the favorite excuse, If only our government werent corrupt, wed be like the United States or Switzerland.
Ive even met Venezuelans who were pro-socialism but anti-Chavez. This sort of political and economic ignorance is hardly uncommon around the globe.
Countries in the Eastern Bloc are another good example. When the Berlin Wall fell, they had an opportunity for absolute freedom. But quickly the population demanded the same old socialist policies. Despite the obvious failures of communism, socialism still thrives. The government programs have grown, and expenditures have exploded. The debt-to-GDP levels for some of these young countries are astounding. Their political philosophy follows the same Chavez symptom mentioned above in a different format. People will speak harshly of communisms past while supporting todays socialist policies.
Americas limited-government tradition is its greatest asset. And thanks to history, this heritage will be hard to destroy. Every American student still learns the anti-tax and anti-government origins of the American Revolution. Further, other historical periods reinforce the anti-government spirit, such as the Wild West and the Civil War. Unless history books are burned, the anti-government element will always remain intact to an extent.
Our political process utilizes this historical link all the time. Just look at the Tea Party crowds dressed in Revolutionary War outfits. Or think about free-market political speeches that recall the Founding Fathers. You couldnt make the same speech in Colombia, Kenya, or Russia.
But unfortunately, Americas limited-government tradition has also become its Achilles heel. With the worlds endless purchases of U.S. Treasuries, no one keeps a check on our political system. Were simply expected to continue being the same old world engine of growth. Sometimes pressure is more valuable than historical precedence. No matter how confused the Greeks may be on economics, they get the idea when the international community smacks them over the snout with a rolled-up newspaper.
With an endless supply of loans from the rest of the world, no one has forced us similarly to get serious. Hence well ride the big government gravy train as long as possible. Well need more than the small Greek changes to solve Americas inevitable problems. Because when the international community abandons U.S. Treasuries, our smack wont come from the rolled-up sports section but instead from the whole Sunday edition.
Hopefully, our political traditions will come to the rescue. Theyre our last hope in the end. And whether investors in Treasuries know it or not, this tradition is exactly what theyre betting on. Theres nothing else on Americas long-run balance sheet worth a dime.
Is it any wonder why Cali and the rest of the Country is going BK?
