Rahm Emanuel, President Barack Obama's chief of staff, is likely to leave the White House before the November congressional elections to run for mayor of Chicago, people familiar with the matter said.
Emanuel, who would be running to replace Chicago Mayor Richard M. Daley, could depart by early October, after Congress leaves for recess to campaign for the midterm elections, the people said on condition of anonymity. One person close to Emanuel said a final decision hasn't been made.
The timing of Emanuel's departure would allow him to devote full attention to the Chicago race while still giving the president time to choose his replacement as the chief gate- keeper for the Oval Office.
Among those being considered to fill the chief-of-staff post are Ron Klain, Vice President Joseph Biden's chief of staff; Thomas Donilon, U.S. deputy national security adviser; and White House Counsel Robert Bauer, people familiar with the situation said.

maybe his ability to make an a$$ of himself will accelerate in direct proportion to how quickly the new house and senate shut him down
When I was at Marquette University Business school back in the late 80s we studied the Carter cabinet as an example of a disfunctional management team. He was a living example of what to avoid.
Obama has never faced an opponent who could fight back. He is from Chicago, where there has not been one republican in any elected position for at least the last 30 years. The district he ran for the State Senate regularly goes for the Democrats with over 75% of the vote. In the Illinois state house he had veto proof Democrat majorities in both houses, and a Democrat governor. When he went to the Senate in 2006 his opponent was driven out when a friendly judge illegally opened his divorce documents. In the Senate he operated with large Democrat majorities and a Republican president who was curled up in the corner trying not to wet himself. And for the first two years of his administration he has had overwhelming majorities in the House and Senate. He has never had to cut a deal with someone that he couldn't intimidate. Nobody has ever said NO to him, and made it stick
Obama has never taken on an opponent that actually had the power to stop him at will. Dealing with a hostile and powerful opponent is a hard to learn skill. Clinton, a liberal Democrat governor from a conservative state had already had a lot of experience in this. He was instinctively able to cut deals and maneuver Gingrich into doing what he wanted to do. And taking credit for the victories of his opponents. Not only dose Obama no know how to pivot and pick his fights, but it will never occur to him to do it in the first place.

excellent post!!
It’s scary to think about how national security issues will continue to be mishandled, but *interesting* to think about how the Obama sycophants will hunker down with him in desperate denial.

Every one should know Rahm would have stayed if Obama had a chance for re-election.
This is a good sign.

Your comment about the 1980 election brought back a memory.
In 1980 I was going to graduate school in San Francisco and remember my conservative friends were petrified that Carter was going to take it. We were in a liberal media bubble where the press had painted the election as “a horse race” and refused to acknowledge that Reagan had actually taken a substantial lead.
The weekend before the election I went to visit my folks in Fresno. After listening to real people and seeing the momentum outside of the bay area I came back with the news that not only Carter was going to lose but that it would be a huge blowout victory for Reagan. No one believed me, even though I was adamant about my prediction.
Boy that was a beautiful win for conservatives. I hope and pray that we repeat this type of victory all over the country this November

"Thats nice, but there is still one more occupant of the White House who needs to go...." No, 2 - you forgot Timothy Geithner.

And his narcissism and ideology will never let him compromise on anything. Just look at what he has done to Arizona because Jan Brewer stood up to him. Luckily he can’t sue congress for opposing him. I really think if this election goes the way we hope it will, and we get good people who won’t back down, we will need to all invest in the popcorn industry! I think he will actually come unhinged! How is he going to react when congress starts telling him NO, starts taking steps to repeal/defund healthcare? His only method so far is to blame Bush/Boehner/Tea Party/etc....and that’s not working out so well for him.
