Explaining the New Democratic Logo
By Jonathan Witt on 9.21.10 @ 6:07AM
The new Democratic logo is so bad that the intellectual rot in the official announcement went largely unnoticed. Consider the fifth and sixth paragraphs:
I'm sure you'll also notice our new look. Some may think: it's just a logo -- it's just a brand. Well I don't believe the Democratic Party is a logo or a brand -- we are much more than that. We are Democrats. We create change that matters. Ours is a party of ideas and ideals, of policies and people, history and purpose.
So call it what you will -- this new identity for our party captures the spirit that unites us all. Democrats -- all of us -- are working for the change that matters.
To grasp how deeply the rot extends here, imagine you have a ne'er-do-well nephew who has come to live with you and has just run up a bill on your credit card, a bill so large that your children's children's children might eventually be able to pay it off if they all become celebrated brain surgeons with a penchant for thrifty monastic life. The reality of your financial situation is just sinking in when your nephew calls you at work and says he has a big announcement for you when you get home.

"
Did you notice the same pukey shade of blue is used in the UN logo?"
Yes, I did.
They should just go ahead and drop the pretense and use the real thing.
It's not like we don't already know what they want.

Wow...good job on that.
It’s disconcerting really. These people have shed all pretenses which leads me to believe that they think they will succeed. I do think they never took into account any resistance (not from the numbers we are seeing anyway).

The D stands for Dumper, which is what the symbol portrays. They’ve flushed the country down the toilet.

Where’s the “pes”? It’s supposed to spell “Dopes,” right?

Did they pay some design group $1.5 million for this?
What a deal. I would have charged them $5 million.
Stimulus funds will pay for it.

The "fat man carrying surfboard" logo has been replaced. Maybe the dems could buy this one.

Logos are funny things. The elephant and the donkey, of course, both go back to 19th century Thomas Nast cartoons. The images became rooted and for generations both parties embraced them. Republicans still do. I am one of many with a closet full of elephant ties, and it's not at all unusual to see elephant collections, large and small, and other elephant motifs popping up in the homes and offices of Republicans. Harmless and fun.
I began to notice years ago that the dems didn't have nearly as much fun with the donkey as we did with the elephant. I still don't quite understand why not; once upon a time they did, but somewhere along the line the spirit of fun seems to have died. My suspicion is that, like so much else that has turned sour in this country, this may be rooted in the leftist takeover of the late 60's-1970's. That seems to be when the sense of humor, sense of perspective, and civic spirit went out of the other party.

Here's a little visual aid that emphasizes the similarity between the UN flag and the neo-fascists', I mean democrats', new logo:

To go along with that, here's a more truthful placement of this abominable new logo - in a place that truly exemplifies what the democrats are and what they stand for:
Of course, that goes along quite nicely with the placement of Obastard's own logo:
