The new Fox News poll of the Delaware Senate race shows Democratic nominee Chris Coons continuing to enjoy a double-digit lead against Republican Christine O'Donnell.
The numbers: Coons 54%, O'Donnell 39%. The survey of likely voters has a ±3% margin of error. There is no previous Fox News poll of this race. However, this poll was conducted through a Rasmussen offshoot, Pulse Opinion Research, which performs made-to-order robopolls. The previous Rasmussen poll from last week, taken right after O'Donnell's upset win in the primary over moderate Congressman Mike Castle, gave Coons a lead of 53%-42%.
This poll also confirms the conventional wisdom that Republican voters threw away a certain pickup of this seat. The poll asks voters to suppose that Castle had been the GOP nominee -- and in that match-up he leads Coons by a whopping 48%-33%. In addition, only 33% of respondents said that O'Donnell is qualified to be a Senator, to 60% who say she is not qualified. This compares to a 59%-27% margin for Coons, the county executive of Delaware's largest county, which contains a majority of the state's population.
The TPM Poll Average gives Coons a lead of 53.7%-39.3% against O'Donnell. And just for comparison, the average for a Castle-Coons race gives Castle a lead of 46.4%-35.4% over the Democrat.
I don’t think this lead will hold.
we’ll see
shhhh! (you’re off-message)
Cloning people with mice to yeild mice with fully functioning human brains?
Just too easy for the Dems on this one.
We need to marshall our troops to start going at the “Bearded Marxist!” ... and shift the debate to binary economic issues. She could win if this is done artfully, forcefully and relentlessly.”Shock and Awe” time in DE!
Well Fox News since you gave all that free air time to Rove to spread his slanderous attacks against her, this is no surprise.
BTW, Conservatives need to make note of this. Fox News is a GOP Establishment mouthpiece, it is not a friend to Conservatives.
“This poll also confirms the conventional wisdom that Republican voters threw away a certain pickup of this seat”
And the “conventional wisdom” has been correct how many times in this election cycle?
It may be time to stop worrying about “conventional wisdom.”
I don't either but we must remember those people keep electing Joe Biden so what can we expect? We need to stand our ground and get behind O'Donnell as best we can from everywhere, not just Delaware people. It is certainly not time to be remorseful and modify our conservatism. That is what got us where we are to start with.
How that money is spent will determine if this changes.
McCain's primary victory was the result of money, nothing more. If she wants to win, she can beat Coons with a well run, relentless campaign to accentuate his negatives and minimize her own.
Agree completely. Fox News has always been a mouthpiece for the GOP establishment and not Conservatives. Fox only veers Conservative when the GOP establishment feigns that way.
This is almost certainly true. But most people are more concerned about conservative pickups, not Republican ones.
Senate Conservatives just started running ads in DE. O'Donnell's $2M can start kicking in for more ads. This should start chipping away at these poll numbers.
If Tokyo Rove and his beltway buds will back off...
Watching Dick Morris on Hannity last night...he had a great idea for a campaign ad, where she could say something about witchcraft being scary, but not compared to what the Dems are doing to our country. I think that would be a winner.
Fox is a mouthpiece for their Saudi masters.
Scott Brown was even farther behind in deep Blue Massachusetts this far out from the election. And he hadn't raised $2 million in 7 days to campaign with.
MAYBE if the Rovebots quit working so hard to try and sabotage her, she might actually make a race of it.
However, if you Rovite RINOS types want to keep it up, that will be fine.
We Conservatives will remember after Nov who tried to win this vital race and who sided with the Democrats.
Ouch.
We saw that they way they relentlessly shilled for McCain during the 2008 primaries. It is confirmed by this garbage.
I’m afraid she’s toast. You just don’t make up 15 pts with a snap of a finger. I would have voted for her in the primary, but that witchcraft story just blunted any positive momentum she had.
Focus on this track record of deficit spending and tax hikes as County Exec
His go along get along attitude toward corruption as County Council President
and not being an independent voice - being Harry Reid's pet.
